William Hole

William Fergusson Brassey Hole (1846–1917), Edinburgh painter and etcher, spent some weeks in Palestine in 1901 with paints and a Kodak camera, recording the places and people to create authentic settings and costumes for a series of illustrations of the life of Christ. Eighty watercolours had been completed by 1905, and were exhibited in 1906 at the Fine Art Society, which published them as The Life of Jesus of Nazareth. This (c)1930 reproduction, 'The Life Of Jesus Of Nazareth Portrayed In Colours: 80 pictures by William Hole R.S.A, R.E.', has a 34-page preface by William Sinclair, Archdeacon of London, and a 14-page introductory note by Edinburgh theologian George Adam Smith (1856-1942).… (altro)
