Rowland Hill and the Fight for the Penny Post di Henry Warburton Hill
A curious assemblage of material related to Rowland Hill, the author's grandfather. The book opens with a screenplay about the introduction of the Penny Post. Another dramatisation is included as a reprint from a campaigning pamphlet arguing for the reform. Other elements include a transcript of a letter written to thank Sir Rowland for his reform, and the text of his request that Parliament should scrutinise the progress of said reform. Such a miscellany is more typical of self-published works but the Colonel's remarkable crossword dictionary had been earning Frederick Warne steady sales for 15 years when the centenary of the Penny Post arrived.… (altro)
Useful for helping with the Sunday crossword, though I have to confess that I always find crossword dictionaries counter-intuitive to use.
