This is a bit longer than the books I usually read for storytime, but I think it's good enough that I'll do just this one instead of two books for my rain-themed birthday storytime.

Rudie finds out his babysitter has the flu and decides to make soup for her. He makes chicken soup with his mother the way his sitter made it, while adding "stories" to it. He brings the soup to his babysitter, and she feels much better the next day. This book is for ages 4+. This book can be found in the Lakewood Pierce College library

Humorous and sly reading. Howie is bent on winning the title of Junior Businessperson of the Year in a classroom contest. His business sense is on the hapless side however, as he manages to mount more expenses than income owing to a series of unfortunate business decisions.

This was a pretty cute book about friendship and helping others. I really like how Rudie adds "stories" into the soup. That can be a cute activity to go along with this book. Children can create recipes for the perfect friendship or the perfect classroom in the beginning of the school year.

Winner of the coveted Sydney Taylor Award for outstanding Jewish content from the Association of Jewish libraries! When his sitter, Mrs. Gittel gets the flu, Rudie Dinkens cures her by making Mrs. Gittel’s special chicken soup recipe. Her secret is to spice the soup with stories and Rudie recalls many of them as he stirs. A charmingly illustrated, warm and humorous story of inter-generational friendship.

A sophisticated picture book that introduces all facets of
being and becoming a writer. This book is brightly illustrated and uses bold
colors as well as interesting perspectives. Each page has a writing tactic,
genre, or topic that starts with each letter of the alphabet and a
corresponding short poem, like “T stands for Tall Tales, stories grand and
bold, of lumberjacks, their pals and gals, of railroad men of old.” On the side
of each page there are interesting facts about writers of that particular genre
or authors that used that writing tactic along with a quote of theirs.

You know this series. You’ve read others like it from this publisher. You like the others? You will like this one.The author moves through the alphabet, hitting highlights of the writing process, expounding upon character and drafts and editing and genre and many more. The pictures are inviting and the text is clear.A sample:“G begins the French word Genre, a way to group stories by kind.History, Mystery, Folktale, Myth. Each boasts rules to mind.Writers and readers classify stories by kind or genre, pronounced zhan-ruh. Each category has its own structure and set of rules. Genre choices for fiction include folktales, fantasy, and science fiction. Genre choices for nonfiction include essays, memoirs, and autobiographies.”Children’s comments:I showed this book to a group of eight first graders, all strong readers. They all liked the pictures and enjoyed browsing through the text, trying to anticipate the word for each letter and reading through the information about stories.
