Breve biografia
He moved his family to Milwaukee in 1951 to work for the 35th & Cherry Church of Christ. In 1958 he helped establish the Southside Church of Christ where he labored for over 50 years. Hawley was an author of four books and four Bible correspondence courses. He was also a founding member of the Wisconsin Christian Youth Camp (WCYC) and a member of the York College Board of Trustees for 21 years. He was a graduate of Harding University, and earned a master’s degree from Washington University in St. Louis. He authored the book, Redigging the Wells. He was committed to the ideal of Christian unity, and believed wholeheartedly in the notion that we are “Christians only—but not the only Christians.” Monroe’s younger brother, the late Roger Hawley, taught for Lubbock Christian College in the 1970s.

The author writes from the perspective of the "church of Christ" (no musical instruments may be utilized in "worship") stream of the Stone-Campbell religious heritage. He believes it is sinful to be a "member" of a Christian denomination.

This book purports to explain why denominationalism is sinful and what one must think, believe, speak, and practice to be "Christians only." (24, 216)

It seemed to me that the main target audience for the book would be persons who are already of the "church of Christ" who may need to better understand nondenominational Christianity.

Persons who are interested in learning more of the Stone-Campbell religious heritage (the author prefers "Restoration Movement" [Ch. 2]) may find the book to be beneficial. For the most part, the author writes with an irenic tone.

The book includes a "Scriptural Index" and a general index. I acquired my copy on used book market.
