David Hawcroft

Long John Silver steals the show, but he's backed up by a host of memorable characters: Blind Pew, Israel Hands, Billy Bones, Ben Gunn. All larger than life, all a bit mental. Most of the characters are a bit one dimensional perhaps, especially the good guys, but this is a children's story. The exception is of course LJS who is so charismatic you cannot believe he is all bad, even though he probably is. The action is fast paced, especially once the Hispaniola sets sail and reaches Treasure Island, which it does in a couple of pages give or take an incident in an apple barrel. It's all a good yarn and there are several great scenes that stay with you. In short, much better than I anticipated.… (altro)
