I guess this book ask the age long question of why do women waste their time on jerks??? Arman was a first-class jerk. He goes to a club to hook up with Alicia whom he met at the local store. While at the club, he sees Alicia and his best friend, Cory, exchanging pieces of paper so he assumes they are hooking up. Meanwhile, he meets Terri and they start a relationship based strictly on sex including late night booty calls. Later, Arman discovers that the exchange between Cory and Alicia was her asking Cory to give Arman her phone number. Naturally, Arman jumps at the opportunity to start a relationship with Alicia all the while continuing his relationship with Terri (I did say Arman was a jerk, right??).

It was at this point I sort of took issue with the author. It appears her intent is to paint Terri as a hoochie willing to have unlimited, no rules barred sex with Arman without asking for any type of commitment - Terri never questions where Arman is, where he is going, or with whom he has been spending time with - she is always ready and willing at his every peck and call. On the other hand, Alicia makes Arman wait 6 months before having sex with him so the author sorts of paints her as a virgin - the type of girl you would want to take home to mom. During the 6 months Arman is commenting on the deep emotional ties he is developing for Alicia. However, during their first sexual encounter Alicia turns out to be a freak (actually initiating anal sex which was obviously not her first time). This sort of contradicts the image I had of Alicia.

Anyhow, overlooking that contradiction, Arman later discovers Terri is pregnant and she refuses to have an abortion. Being the jerk he is, Arman writes a letter to both Terri and Alicia telling them how much he loves them but he accidentally mails Terri's letter to Alicia and vice versa. Terri up and disappears while Alicia forgives and decides to marry Arman. On their wedding day, Terri shows up and goes into labor. This is where the book took a strange turn. All of a sudden Arman loves both Terri and Alicia. He is determined to be a father to his son and begs Alicia to accept his newfound responsibility. But Arman is kissing on Terri when they are alone in the hospital room and confessing his love for her. But when Alicia shows up at the hospital, Arman introduces her as "his future wife". Once again, Arman is a jerk and Alicia and Terri should be in the dictionary under the word stupid. Alicia and Arman do get married, Alicia gets pregnant while Arman continues to sleep with Terri. While some may say the ending was well-deserved, I felt it was totally predictable and definitely not worth having to endure the preceding 230 pages. I understand there is a sequel to this book which, unfortunately, I purchased the same time I bought this book. I am sure both books will be in the group of books I will donate to my local library - maybe I can save the next person some money.

Overall, I didn't find this book very enjoyable to read. I just kept asking myself how dumb can two women be. Therefore, I cannot recommend this book.

This is the story of Dream who is forced into a life of prostitution. She is raped repeatedly by her mother's boyfriend starting at the age of 9. When her mother catches her boyfriend in the act, she accuses Dream of seducing her boyfriend and then throws her out of the house. Roaming the streets with no where to go, Dream runs into Pieces (her soon to be pimp) and his protégé, Ebony. They both proceed to introduce Dream to the life of prostitution.

The rest of the book revolves around Dream's escapades through the life of prostitution. The book was very depressing because the author just bombards the reader with multiple negative, devastating events. Dream ends up pregnant by one of her tricks and the author uses this situation as an opportunity to show that Dream is still capable of loving despite the harshness she has experienced in her life. But, naturally, Dream has no way to provide for the child and is soon hooked up with Kam who runs an "escort" service. Kam sells Dream's baby on the black market and now Dream's life is void and empty. At this point it seems as if there is no light at the end of the tunnel for Dream.

Now enters a detective who investigates the incident of Dream arriving at the hospital beaten almost to death by Pieces. This is where the story takes a strange turn. I guess in order to brighten up the story the author decides to add a "Pretty Woman" theme to the book - you know, where the detective falls in love with the prostitute and Dream now has loving, sexually feelings for the first time in her life. I don't think it worked in this book. It seemed totally out of place and highly unrealistic. It caused me to lose interest in the book.

The book has a very open-ended ending so I know there will be a part 2. The author may surprise me but I think I know how part 2 will start and which characters will survive. Unfortunately, part 1 did not keep me interested enough to pursue part 2. Therefore, I would not recommend this book.
