I liked this book because I think the pictures were interesting and the facts were short and simple for early readers to understand. This was a book that gave simple facts about prey mantises, such as what they eat. I would recommend this book for early primary, possibly kindergarten or preschool.

This book walks the reader through the process of hibernation. It explains the process for a few different animals including bears, groundhogs, frogs, and bats. I like this book because it explains in a very kid friendly language how the process works, and why the animals do this/how they need to hibernate in order to survive. I think it would be a great book to use in the classroom to teach students about the concept of hibernation, and what animals that live near them do so. This would also be a good book to use to start as a starting point to study different animals and where they hibernate since it does introduce more than just a bear.

The reader guesses which animal owns each set of ears. The text includes simple, interesting facts about each animal. The book includes a glossary of terms, suggestions for further reading, and an index.

SCIENCE NON-FICTION: (age range: primary)
This a good representation of a science non fiction because it is factual and precise. It focuses mainly on animals that hibernate and provides what exactly that means and details that are scientifically proven. The book does not tell a story (as a fiction book would) rather it states the facts using well illustrated visuals to grab the young readers attention and draw them in.

This is an informational book about how our Earth has a night and a day. It talks about how the Earth has a rotational spin every 24 hours, how the sun shines during the day and the moon at night, and some of the important factors behind these events. This book has rich new vocabulary for new readers and advanced readers. This book is non-fiction. The media used is real life pictures and drawings.

This is a great informational book on hibernation, and the text and pictures are set for a younger audience. I think that it is hard to find a good informational book for younger grades so this is a great one. It uses pictures of animals which is a great way to illustrate hibernation and captivate the readers attention. I really liked that shows how hibernation is a pattern, includes a glossary, and internet sited that you can use with your class.

Genre: Informational
Uses: A great book that would be useful in your classroom if they were to ever write anything on hibernation, or bears, like a research or informative paper, and two it is a great book for boys or girls who like animals, especially bears. It could also be a great use if you are teaching earth and life science.

I liked this book for three reasons. First, the book has organized tables for newly introduced vocabulary words about Ramadan. While the text states, “Ramadan remembers the time long ago when the Prophet Muhammad received the first revelation of the Koran”, there is a chart on one page that defines the Koran as the Muslim holy book. The charts throughout this book present the information in a clear manner that allows the reader to develop a deeper understanding of another culture. Second, the book is filled with copious illustrations that enhance the story. For example, the book displays a large picture of an example of a mosque that many Muslims would attend while the text says, “During the month of Ramadan, many Muslims go to mosques more often. They read the Koran and pray together.” The pictures in the book give the reader a realistic experience and insight into the Muslim culture and support what is being said within the text to help the reader understand new concepts. Third, the language in the book is clear. As the book introduces new vocabulary that the reader may not understand, it puts the pronunciation of the word in parenthesis. To demonstrate this, there is a sentence in the book that states, “religion (ri-LIJ-uhn): a system of belief, faith, and worship of Gods or gods.” Overall, the main idea of the book is for the reader to understand what Muslims eat, do, and practice during Ramadan. It is designed to give the reader an insight into the Muslim culture for people who do not understand.

This is a graphic novel that transports the reader immediately into a medieval time in history rich in wealth, royalty, and death.
The story as most know starts out with a promise. Uther Pendragon promises Merlin the wise wizard anything, if only he can defeat his foes.

Nine months later the promise s fulfilled when Uther's first born is handed over to the wizard who then hides the child. In time Uther dies and his sword is placed in a stone- the inscription on the stone reads "Whosoever pulleth this sword" and lo and behold- a young man named Arthur pulls the sword from the stone- after years of the biggest burliest strong men were unable to do the same. So Arthur becomes king, and his adventures lead him to do great things. He joins with the Lady of the lake and disappears.

The book is a wonderful and delightful entry into the world of swords, dragon, high courts and kingdoms passed so many centuries ago. I enjoyed it, as it reminded me, I am never too old to remember what it felt like to wish for a king like Arthur, whence i was a child. I think its a good reminder that we need a man like Arthur on our side in the white house, today.

This was a cute book about how different animals go into hibernation. It starts by describing simply how animals prepare to sleep for months. Then it lists animals that hibernate and the differences between their processes. This would be a realistic fiction or informational text.

This book informs the reader all about Ramadan. Each page has a picture with a small sentence underneath. There's a recipe for a traditional dish eaten by those who celebrate Ramadan, and after that, a glossary of potentially confusing terms. Many terms are defined right underneath the picture in the book.

A great book for children to learn about other cultures from. Highly recommended for any young school age person to read.

Very interesting short paragraphs on how to live. Example: "POSSESSION" "If someone admires something of yours, give it to them. If you don't, understand how you need it. Don't use money as the reason unless you're broke." That's the whole page. Think about that!

This is a book that takes a realistic look at the Praying Mantises, and how they get their names. This is a good up close book that tells a lot of very interesting facts about these bugs. This another one of those really great science lesson books, again on a Smart Board, or with handouts. Kids love bugs, as a teacher we could also get the Praying Mantis kit that some companies offer as a teaching tool for our classrooms.

Money is a book about what people used to pay for things before money, why the government changes how bills look, and what makes each and every dollar bill special. This book looks at how money is made, and how money has changed throughout history.
This book is a part of a series called “Earning, Savings, and Spending” it is a good book to give students an overview of money. I think it is important children understand how money evolved, how it is earned, and that It is an important part of life. I like this book a lot!
Extension Ideas: I would use this book when teaching my students about money. For example we could have a “store” and use money to buy things we need/ want. The students can barter things they buy like they did before money was made. You could do so many lessons with this book it is a great book to use!
