By no means exhaustive, this slender volume still has plenty of ideas for textures, cables, edgings and color work. Especially useful are suggestions for how each pattern could be used. The technique illustrations are helpful, too.

An excellent tutorial for the beginning home sewer. I chose to make a boudoir chair slipcover. The illustrations, directions and descriptions were simple to understand. My slipcover turned out beautifully and fits the chair perfectly. It explains in detail how to measure accurately. i felt that I could cover anything when I was finished! Great reference and guidance book for the home sewer.

Smocking is another one of the "lost arts" that is preserved by this book. The introduction with the basics of smocking is an excellent discussion of how to make the gathers and then secure them with decorative stitching. Each chapter of projects gets progressively more difficult, so that a beginner can complete a project and an expert seamstress can find a challenge that is interesting to make.

There are some interesting doll patterns included, one in specific for an african doll made from a toilet tissue roll. I used the patterns, and made some of the dolls; full size patterns included.

Some of the patterns are very hard to read because they use colours only, not symbols - and yellow on white is impossible to see. However, most of them are readable, and some of the projects are unique and worth keeping the book for. I made the Knitting Basket (beaded and quite lovely) and a decorative pincushion (which I modified to read See A Pin And Pick It Up instead of For Eve With Love - Eve?!), and I'm quite proud of the results.
