Lisa’s uncle, who lives in New York City, sends her an amazing birthday gift. He sends her an airplane ticket so that she can come and visit him in the city.

Every day, Lisa and Uncle Harrison go sightseeing. The Statue of Liberty. The Brooklyn Bridge. The Flatiron Building. Skyscrapers. Central Park. And so much more. Which one will be Lisa’s favorite? And what souvenir will she choose for Gaspard? Lisa is having a wonderful time until Uncle Harrison disappears.

But what will happen to Lisa now?

Full-color paintings create bright, captivating illustrations for this charming tale. Celebrating all that is Manhattan, its city landscape includes the twin towers of the World Trade Center, an unexpected and heartrending reminder of simpler days gone by.

Young readers, especially those who are fans of the Lisa and Gaspard series of books, will find much to enjoy in this delightful book. There’s an unexpected safety lesson within the story for the targeted audience [readers ages three through seven]. When Lisa is lost, she knows exactly what to do . . . and after reading this story, the young child will know, too.

Highly recommended.

Lisa gets to visit her Uncle Harrison in New York City. He takes her sightseeing all over, and all is well until she gets distracted in Times Square. Beautifully illustrated with recognizable landmarks of NYC.

Lisa and Gaspard are dogs that go on a field trip to the museum with their classmates. The children joked that Lisa and Gaspard could be part of the museum; they decided to make signs, sneak up the rope and stand as still as statues to look like part of the exhibit. Young children can relate to the experiences of this story because they often go on field trips with their class.

In my opinion, Lisa’s Baby Sister, is a wonder children’s modern fantasy book. The illustrations and the language within the story allow this book to send a clear message to its readers that you should get to know someone or something before you ever have an opinion.

The illustrations in this book are quite unique; they look as though they are paintings, which, in my opinion are beautiful. The colors are very contrasting to each other making the book even more engaging to the readers. Also, the illustrations most definitely support the text throughout the story. For example, the text reads, “My mom has been pregnant for a very long time, and I am tired of it. She can’t run to catch the bus. She makes me carry my own schoolbags.” The illustration shows that Lisa, the main character, waiting at the bus stop, bragging her own school bag, as her mother is still walking to the bus stop to catch up to Lisa. Poor Lisa, throughout the book she is very angry that her mother is pregnant, and then becomes extremely jealous when her new baby sister is born. The language in the story depicts her emotions very well. For example, her parents are trying to decide on names for the new baby and Lisa says, “I told them I have some good names: Doofus for a girl or Goofus for a boy.” It is cute humorous, however, you can get a sense of how a new big sister might feel when a new baby is on the way.

Gaspard is always up to something crazy and in this picture books, with bright painted colors, he steels a paddle boat while on vacation in Venice causing a ruckus throughout the historic town.

Good for early readers, k - 2

Two friends find themselves inside during a rainstorm, causing more mischief than they thought possible. Nice water color drawings, filled with stark colors.

Gaspard and Lisa on a rainy day got in a lot of trouble. They were bored and did not have anything else to do. That is what children does when they bored. I like the series of books and I enjoy reading them.

The illustration in this book is wonderful. That is what makes the book come alive. Gaspard and Lisa are best friends who does everything together. At first they started off not as friends until Lisa helped Gaspard team win the race. They are perfect for each other. This will teach children never judge a book by it's cover because that person may be your best friend.

This was a cute story. Instead of Gaspard and Lisa playing a joke on their classmates they end up being left at the museum. What do you think it feels like to be left in a museum in the dark? Luckily, they came back to look for them so they can return home safely. Lovely book from the beginning to the end.

Majority of people goes through the new baby is being born and do not like it because they think it will take their spot. This was a cute story because at the end Lisa accepted her baby sister Lila and began to love her just like the rest of her family. Everyone should get a chance to read this book because I am sure they can relate to this situation.

A concept board book for counting that also introduces the names for baby animals of ten different species, Mommy Loves is particularly good for introducing numbers because it prints the appropriate numeral on each page instead of just leaving readers to count the figures. However, a colleague pointed out that some children may be confused by the mother animal being one extra number each time. Georg Hallensleben illustrates in oils(?) with bold contrasting colors and brushstrokes that give the pictures texture. Originally published in France and translated to English. Used as the read together for Baby Loves Numbers baby storytime on 7/24/09.

A lovely book for Dads to share with their kids. Our kids expect a kiss from each page, and are left giggling by the end of the book.

Story about a bunny who makes up a story about being in the jungle during summer. The bunny is insecure because she/he did not go anywhere in the summer. The bunny is caught lying and learns a lesson. Recommended for ages K-3.

The "mommy" animals in this book are all hugging their offspring. This book not only teaches how different animals show affection towards their young, but it also states the names of each young animal (i.e. cat and kitten).

This story is a bout a little dog named Lisa. Lisa is from Paris takes her first trip on a plane and is headed to New York. While on the plane, she experiences many new things like airplane food and gets to visit the cockpit. She finally lands in New York and her uncle is there waiting to pick her up. They call her parents in Paris and her dad tells her to have a fun time in New York.
The illustrations in this book are great with lots of color and look a little rustic. This story was originally published in Frances and written in French. It was a little boring to read and my kids didn't really get engaged in it as I was reading it.

Daddy animals kiss their babies all over, just like human daddies!

Beautifully textured oil paintings in rich tones invite kids to reach out and feel the pages of this board book illustrated by Georg Hallensleben. A wonderful books showing the tender, gentle side of fathers (and some otherwise scary animals like the lions on the cover). Good for learning and making animal names and sounds, as well as parts for the body. A great choice for a preschool storytime, or for reading with a young one at home.

Gaspard visits Venice with his family. This one in the Gaspard and Lisa series seems to have more of a fantasy element than the others; Gaspard gets bored going from museum to museum, so he wanders off on his own, finds a gondola/kayak, steals it, causes an accident in the canals, attempts to evade the police, and is finally reunited with his family. I think the fantastical plot is really in service of showing the beautiful illustrations of the canals and scenery of Venice. It's a beautifully illustrated book with lots of amazing shades of blue.

Lisa takes a plane trip to visit her uncle in New York! The book covers most of what young children will encounter on their first plane ride: airplane food, watching a movie, making a mess, using the airplane bathroom, talking to the stewardess, visiting the cockpit (if they're lucky), and so on. Lisa handles it all with aplomb! Gaspard is absent from this particular adventure.

This entry into The Misadventures of Gaspard and Lisa is quite charming. It's in most ways typical of "new baby" stories, in that Lisa moves from resenting her new little baby sister Lila to being posessive and loving of her over the course of the story. Lisa has her own sassy charm, though! And the illustrations, with bright blues, pinks, and yellows dominating, are winning.
