This book is about a father and son who enjoy spending time together. They sing songs, make breakfast, climb trees, and more. They do everything together and they travel to the son's grandparents house and they are all filled with joy.

This Pura Belpre book is about the love between a dad and his son. This book describes events that occur throughout the day and highlights the love found between these two family members. The Spanish words are woven throughout and are use to translate due to the context (the words are in italics though). The author and illustrator provide a short summary of their life and why they wrote this book. This would be great for primary readers.

This book depicts a loving relationship between a father and son. We see the two spend a fun day together at home and the park, finishing up at the grandparents' house. The book uses Spanish throughout the book without explicit definitions. Instead you are able to determine the meaning from context clue and illustrations. The illustrations are my favorite part of the book. To me these picture give off a warm feeling, much like the father and son's relationship.

Papa and Me is a picture book that shows the relationship between a father and son. The boy in the story narrates a day he spends with his father. I thought the illustrations were very unique. They really capture the happy and positive relationship that the father and son share.

His Papa is this little boy's best friend. He spends the day with his Papa, and do they do absolutely everything together. They make breakfast, they go to the park and splash in the puddles, they ride the bus, and they go and visit his grandparents together. This book is all about the love between a son and a father, and how they enjoy each other's company no matter what they are doing. This book is a bit bilingual, so many of the words are translated into Spanish following the English word. On all of the pages the illustrations of the Papa and his son they are taking up almost the whole page. Illustrator, Rudy Gutierrez, put colorful and vibrant paintings on every page of the book. The beautiful colors almost represent the happy moments the Papa and son are having together. This book won the Pura Belpre illustrator honor in 2009.

"Papá and Me," has a good story line of how a father and son have a strong bond. Throughout the story the father speaks only Spanish to the son and the son speaks both English and Spanish. The connection between the father and son is very strong and you can sense it throughout both the elegant pictures and the text. They share a great love for each other that no small barrier such as language can stop them from enjoying time with each other. The way this book shows how the father and son still have a strong bond through the language barrier, I know I can have a better relationship with some of my loved ones through other obstacles.½

A bilingual young girl and her Spanish-speaking mother spend the day together in this sweet, warmhearted picture-book from author Arthur Dorros and illustrator Rudy Gutierrez. As they go about their various activities, the young girl demonstrates a desire to do things on her own, but also a need to stay connected to her mother, and do things with her. While the two buy supplies to redecorate a room, the girl also buys something she can use to create a special gift for this special woman...

A companion to this author/illustrator team's Papá and Me, Mamá and Me has the same sense of family love in the gentle narrative, and the same colorful, exuberant illustrations. I liked that the activities here built toward something - the giving of a gift for Mother's Day - but that they also feel natural and somehow everyday. One gets the feeling that this mother and daughter spend lots of time together. Recommended to anyone looking for engaging picture-books about the mother-daughter bond, or featuring depictions of Latino families.

A young boy narrates this gentle tale of his activities with his Papá. Although they are different in some ways - the boy is bilingual, while his father only speaks Spanish; the boy loves pancakes and his father eggs; the boy likes to splash in puddles and his father does not - they share the most important thing of all: love...

Arthur Dorros' text in Papá and Me is less of a story than it is a slice of life depiction of a boy and his father. That said, it is full of a sense of warmth and family love. The accompanying artwork by Rudy Gutierrez, although not really to my taste, is colorful and full of energy, capturing the boy's exuberance and his father's careful guardianship. Gutierrez was awarded a Pura Belpré Honor for his illustrations. Recommended to anyone looking for engaging father-son picture-books, as well as readers interested in children's stories featuring Latino and/or Spanish-speaking families.

Great book to show a father and son relationship. This book would be great for kids who are in single-family homes. Also, this book gives you insight into Spanish words.

summary: In this book, a boy and his father go on many adventures as a bilingual speaking family.
reflection: This book was interesting to me because although I don't understand any Spanish, I was still able to read this book! I like how it incorporated both Spanish and English words for bilingual readers. I will definitely have to remember this book so that I can use it in a future classroom one day!

The day begins with a golden beam of light from the sun coming through the bedroom window. The narrator and his Papa are singing together in the morning as the cook breakfast. There are beautiful vibrant colors on each page to emphasize the feelings of love felt between the narrator and his Papa. The father is always shown in a Goliath-like perspective, filling entire pages and looming over his son.The bright colors add to the idea of the loving relationship between the narrator and his Papa and how happy they are. The lack of any other people and how the father and son almost melt together gives the impression of how they are in their own world, in a way, and emphasizes just how important they are to one another. The illustrations, though full of bright colors and twisting shapes and distorted images adds a complexity, similar to how complex the feeling of love can be. In this case it is being shown between a father and son. The final illustration of the narrator and his Papa visiting his grandparents' house and the family hug concludes the story with a feeling of love for one another.

This book, "Papa and Me" by Arthur Dorros, is about a young boy spending the day with his father and grandparents. The illustrations are colorful and go beautifully with the context of the book. "Papa and Me" shows a family dynamic. This book contains some Spanish words. To a child that does not know Spanish this may seem intimidating, but using context clues, the words only improve the story. I really like this book because it can expose readers to different cultures and languages.

The artwork appears to be in chalk or pastels, whimsical, and vibrant in color. The illustrator work is abstract and embodies the Latino culture. Very detailed with usages of various different technique. My six years old was drawn to the artwork. Was able to describe what was depicted in the pictures. From a parental view, the illustrations attracts the readers and sparks conversation.

This story tells of an adventure a boy and his father makes one day to visit his grandparents. Although there is not sight of his mother it makes the reader question what happened to her. There are some word in the book that are in Spanish. For instance, the father will say things to the boy in Spanish, and the boy will respond in either Spanish or English. The illustrator uses bright vibrant colors, and different shapes to tell the story. I think this is a very cute book, and i would love to have this for students without their mother so that they know they are not alone.½

A boy spends the day with his dad having fun and going on a little adventure. It is not bilingual but it is peppered with a lot of Spanish words throughout the book.

It nicely portrays a good father-son relationship. The illustrations are quite unique and add to the stories feel of just a fun and warm day between father and son.

Papa and Me is a book about a father and son who spend the day together doing fun things. They wake up to sing, make breakfast together, go on a walk, go to the park, splash through puddles, climb trees, look at the clouds, draw in the sand, play games and ride the bus to their grandparents house. This story shows a great relationship between a father and son and in my opinion, this is how every child should have a relationship with their parents. I was blessed to have great relationship with my parents similar to the father and son in this story. Besides that, this book is a really great read for young children. The illustrations in the book are amazing and very colorful which is eye catching. The art in the book is so colorful which is great for a children's book because it will definitely keep the kids drawn in. The little boys' facial expressions are so happy, it shows how excited he is to be spending the day with his dad. Every picture it so positive. Also, the book introduces simple Spanish words for children to learn or even adults. Examples are: Buenos dias, cantemos, sabroso, la mano, and cuidado. In the story it explains what each word means. The book is so simple but very good.

I loved the illustrations within the book! The book did not have a clear plot, besides just walking through the young boy's day with his Papa. I would have better liked the book if a problem, or something, created a more interesting plot.

It is a great way to get students to understand simple spanish worrds and the meaning is also in the text. It is also a great book to read to student's near fathers say to show them to be thankful for their fathers.

In the beginning of the story the sun is shining onto the two main characters who we know as Papa and a young boy who is the son. The young boy is determined and excited to start the day with his papa. Each page is filled with vibrant colors and swirling circles and pictures between Papa and his son. Papa and his son participate in many activities throughout the day and they have a very playful relationship towards each other. Each page is filled with nature and sunshine which portrays a sense of happiness and togetherness between the two. As Papa plays with his son, his son's imagination runs wild as we see in the illustration the boy morph into a bird symbolizing the freedom he feels when he is with his Papa. As Papa and his son continue on with their day each page of the book is filled with bright colors that help keep a positive vibe. As their day comes to an end,Papa and his son race to their Abuelo's house.. The young boy is drawn with a bright yellow and orange swirls around him and he is beaming with pride and fulfillment because he won a race with Papa. Their adventurous day ends in a group hug at their Abuelo's house.
I enjoyed reading this book as well as i enjoyed admiring the beauty and art in every page that i turned. The art allowed me to become one with the book and truly capture how positive the young boy felt as he spent the day with his Papa.½

"Papa and Me" is a story about a day in the life of a boy and his papa. The boy is bilingual and his father speaks only Spanish. They wake up, eat breakfast, go to the park, ride the bus, and go to their grandparents house. Throughout the story they speak in English and Spanish, it is spoken in such a way that the readers can put together context clues to understand what each Spanish word means. This is great for young readers to teach them about diversity and different languages. The illustrations are absolutely stunning, they were very flowing. Overall, this was a great book and story, I would love to read this in my classroom on day.

I think this book is very good to introduce a different language (Spanish) to the reader. There are more English words than Spanish words and the English words follow the Spanish words so that the reader knows what they are reading.

I would absolutely use this book in a school curriculum. It is a simple read that provides the reader with an introduction to some common Spanish words.

As a child, a simple day with a parent can be magical and full of love. With the help of incredibly bright and happy illustrations, the story of this father and son became just that: magical and full of love. While flipping pancakes, splashing in puddles, and races seem like a basic day, the father's eyes are opened to the spellbinding world around him as he spends the day with his son. The use of color is astounding and while paired with the lines of the and shape, the world truly becomes an enchanting place.
