This book is about a young girl and her bedtime conversation with her mom. Her and her mom together explore the globe and look at their family history and where they all came from. This explores the idea that a culture or a place will always have a part from you and your family even if you haven't been there.

This would be a great book for a primary age. The illustrations used in this book are very gorgeous, full of color, and bright colors showing the different places they are talking and learning about. This story was alwasy being told with love and patience between the mother-daughter talk.… (altro)

Several essays in this collection touched me deeply. The author explores culture and identity. She has experienced and been a part of several different cultures with ties to India, Jamaica, Alaska, the American South, South Africa, and more. I felt a special connection to the essay that discussed her education as an engineer - the idea that a girl who is good at math and science is often encouraged to become an engineer. And now she's an author. And what that feels like. She wrote eloquently about that experience. The essay about the Confederate flag was also powerful. I wish everyone could read it and just consider her perspective.… (altro)
