It's a cute book, but the connection between Little Naomi and Little Chick isn't very clear.

The rhyming in this book did not flow very well and it made it difficult to read. There didn't appear to be any pattern or rhythm to the rhymes and it didn't give me a lot of interest in the book. The illustrations were bold and colorful, which helped keep me interested while trying to read through the confusing rhyme scheme of the text.½

This book has a cute rhyme scheme, but I dont like the pictures that much. The plot is unclear and I didnt particularly like the book very much. It just seemd thrown together.

A charming book with delightful illustrations. It's a fun story about a preschooler and a chick going in a similar direction but not meeting, yet having a friendship of being understood. Chick stays home with other barnyard friends, while Naomi starts her morning routine before heading to preschool. Once there, she plays with friends, colors, builds, bakes, and then shops with her mommy and eats with daddy all in one day. Plus, there's bath time and lullabies before bed. With simple text, early readers will enjoy every detail. I especially like the rhythm and repetition of reading aloud with my grandchildren, "But NOT little chick."

Simple, poetic text follows Little Naomi throughout her day. She gets ready for preschool, enjoys a fun day with her friends and teachers, helps her mother, plays and finally gets ready for bed. But while Naomi enjoys her day, what is Little Chick doing?

This is a sweet and fun story. I reviewed it from a F&G (folded and bound) galley, so some things may change, but I really liked the format it was in. It's a rectangle, kind of like an oversized easy reader. On the left side of the page is the text describing Naomi's actions and always ending in the phrase "But not Little Chick." Under the text is a simple sketch of Naomi in action. On the right side of the page is a full illustration of Little Chick's parallel actions. When Naomi is making handprints with paint, the illustration shows Little Chick making muddy tracks across the yard. When Naomi is taking a bath, Little Chick and her friends are being washed down by their parents under a spigot, etc.

The crayon and pencil illustrations are soft and gently humorous and the text, translated from the original Hebrew is simply but sweetly written. I'm not sure that younger children will really grasp the more subtle humor of the two parallel days, but it's still a fun story even if you don't "get" it. Also, it's not easy to find books showing kids in preschool and I'm always looking for more titles.

Verdict: This won't be an instant bestseller like Fancy Nancy or Pete the Cat, but if you are looking for more everyday activity books, especially showing kids going to preschool, you'll want to add this title.

My daughter LOVED this book! The book tells the day in the life of Naomi, and also Little chick. Each page is devoted to one task either Naomi or Little Chick completes. The text is simple for toddlers or pre-schoolers to follow along, and the pictures are very large to capture the child's attention.

More than once she either pushed ahead in the story, or held the page to study the picture, especially with bright yellow little chick getting into trouble!

My daughter loved this book because it paralleled her day at home and daycare. She could actually tell me what Naomi was doing or going to do next without the words. She was interested in Little Chick's activities too.

I gave this book four stars because I felt the actions of Little Chick could have been a bit more interesting or exciting, teaching children about chickens. I look forward to this author's next book and hope she retains the same artist to share further adventures of Naomi and Little Chick. This review is for an Advance Reading Copy.

This book was cute and a charming read. As with most books there were positives and negatives though. I loved the "vintage" feel that I got from the illustrations of Little Naomi's story; I think the pictures for Little Chick's story were very well done also. Little Naomi's story was simple; something most pre-schoolers could relate with; however, I think they would find it challenging to understand Little Chick's story. I believe it would take some explaining. I do think that you could use this book in old grades to have students write their own story for Little Chick using similar themes found in Little Naomi's story. If you look closely at the illustrations it does look as if Little Chick is doing the same things as Little Naomi just in a bit of a different way. These commonalities are not mentioned in the story though until the end when they are both going to sleep. A parallel story could be written for Little Chick for a classroom assignment. Overall the book was average. It's something I would read with a specific purpose in mind; probably not just a book I would read to my students for pleasure.

Cute children's book with colorful pictures and a rhyming story. Each page describes what Naomi is doing and ends with "But not Little Chick" until the last page. Good book to have the children describe what Little Chick is doing in the pictures.

My preschoolers love this book. As Naomi goes through her typical preschool day, which the kids can definitely relate to, there is another story happening with Little Chick on the facing page. When reading to a group, the reader isn't really following the picture story, but the children sure are. It reminds me of those magic shows when things happen that the children laugh at but the magician feigns ignorance. It's a great book to share one on one, but works as a read aloud.

This book had me at the endpapers! Oh, my goodness, the illustrations are wonderful. The thick, rich paper and matte tone are also lovely. There's a bit of a feel of vintage children's books (my favorite) in the drawings of the children.

I loved the side-by-side illustrations of Naomi and Little Chick, and my 4-year-old and I enjoyed finding the similarities: Naomi's paint handprints paired with Little Chick's muddy footprints, Naomi's block tower looking so like Little Chick's animal pile. I love the simple, sweet day-at-preschool/with family and day-on-the-farm stories.

I'd have given it 5 starts except that the rhymes felt a bit strained at times (although afterward, I noticed that the book is translated, which might account for that; however, I don't think children's books need rhyme and this one could have done without).

Overall, a wonderful book, one that I wish I had in book form, rather than only folded review pages!½

There are positives and negatives about this book. The illustrations are lovely. Rhyming is always a plus for young readers. The reader learns about Little Naomi's day from start to finish. The ideas and examples of daily activities are great for a young child. I don't really think Little Chick adds that much. I spent some time explaining the little chick pictures to my audience, and they seemed indifferent. At the end Little Naomi and LIttle Chick have something in common which is sleeping. Always a good end to a children's book. There were elements that reminded me of Sandra Boyton's baby book "Not the Hippopotamus" and there are many, many books about daily life. For my audience (Kindergarteners) it's too young and too basic. For a preschool or young child, it would be ideal. There is nothing outstanding about this book, but it is a solid choice if you were looking for a book about preschool or a child's adjustment to preschool. It would also teach about time and sequencing.
