One of the first composers to really present dramatically on the operatic stage - this is probably one of the best operas upto the time and a good performance can be really hair-raisingly intense.

I enjoy this opera, although there are really only a couple of truly stunning moments. Still, it's interesting, and has a surprisingly happy ending (particularly surprising it you're familiar with the original myth).
