Honestly more of a 2.5.

Yep definitely a gothic inspired romance complete with the sometimes annoying habit of the heroine/narrator to overly describe scenes or people in a way that doesn't actually paint me a picture.

Standard fare - girl mysteriously goes missing, but more importantly the Hero lusts for the heroine but IT CAN NEVER BE.

Ever. Except if she sneaks into his bedroom without permission. Or he wants to prove its wrong for them to be together. Or she has too much "spiced wine".

Seriously. They can't be together!

The ending here was less buttoned up than I'm used to with my romances, likely because the next book is so closely linked to it.

Overall, not bad just not what I was hoping for.

I thought this was going to be a cute little regency romance. Instead I got a gothic novel that kept me up all night. Can't wait to read the next one. :)

Christmas Shorts by Mimi Barbour, Mona Risk
The book out of the collection that I was given to review:
.
The Chocolate Box Christmas by Josie Riviera
This short story is about Maise who's relocated from Alaska to CA and she's taken a job being a food/writer reporter.
On this assignment she must judge the chocolate contest at a nearby shelter. She knows many of the contestants as she's been around town.
She is able to meet Ben and she discovers his secret as to why he is there. He also finds out why she doesn't really want to be a judge, especially with anything to do with chocolate.
Fun Christmas read, enjoyed it.
Book ends with a note from the author, recipes, and about the author, other works by the author in series format but all can be read as stand alone.
Received this review copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.

Servant girl with dreams of a warrior to save her, from her employer and the life she is living. Was a busy short, with many clichés, but a good read.

A sweet twist on the Grinch scenario. Gordon bottles up his anger and resentment along with loneliness and pain to the point where his bitterness overshadows everything that has importance in his life. Holly is the optimist that turns his life upside down and pulls him kicking and screaming into the magical season of hope, charity and faith. Maybe even love. I am not normally a fan of stories with Grinch or Scrooge like characters but there was something so compelling about Gordon that I couldn't look away. Deck the Hearts exposes what an open heart and open mind can do for the soul and the difference one action can make in the lives of others.

Well done in the gothic style, our impoverished heroine enters the house she has always admired from afar as a governess with a backbone, only to uncover a family harboring secrets. I found the story to be well done, although the hero did seem to conveniently disappear from the page "away on business." That was the only thing that jarred me. I liked the brooding hero, the heroine's plucky outlook on life and the banter with the butler. I grew up reading Victoria Holt, and this book immediately recalls those novels to mind while upping the sensuality level.

Collateral Damage has everything you look for in a romance/suspense/military book.. You have your hunky angst driven hero, a strong heroine mom who doesnt cower in the face of so many dangerous situations.. You have strong supporting characters which you become just as interested in as you do the H and H... I really liked that you got so many POV in this book.. You not only get the H and H but also the many villians plus some of the secondary characters which for me really helps you understand everything that is going on in the book. Sometimes when you only get the H & H POV you dont always understand the story. This book sold me on the description alone months before it ever came out and it didnt disapoint once I finally got my hands on it. :)

There is a great collection of stories out called, Love, Christmas-Holiday stories that will put a song in your heart. I read , We Need A Little Christmas by the talented Leanne Banks. It was sweet, well written and I loved the characters very much.

Lilly is a wonderful , caring person. She spends her time helping the homeless and checking on her neighbors that aren't able to always get out . I loved how the author shared about the homeless and made readers aware that this is an ongoing problem. It was very emotional to read how Lilly would take the coat off her back and give to someone living on the streets . Have you ever helped someone in need? Lilly wants to provide coats to the homeless this Christmas and hopes to get lots of donations.

Justin is the CEO of a prosperous retail company. He does do charity work, but tries to avoid cameras or publicity. It reminded me of the verse in the Bible about doing things to help others without trying to get recognition for it. I loved his giving heart and humble attitude. He is always being asked to give to so many charities and of course they want to meet him. What happens when Lilly asks Justin's company for donations?

I loved how the two meet and makes the story so interesting. There is a theme of trust, forgiveness and giving that makes the story an uplifting read.Be sure and pick up your copy of this beautiful story and find out what happens between Lilly and Justin.

I received a digital copy of this book from the author. The review is my own opinion and I was not compensated for it.

The formatting of this ebook was a little on the rough side (missing scenes, improper spacing, inconsistent spelling of characters' names...) but I enjoyed the read quite a lot!

Everyone's got baggage. It's nice to see a romance that deals with it head on. I adore the Weldon brothers--there's something awfully satisfying about being a voyeur into a great family dynamic. My favorite part of the book just might be where one brother helps another brother to really understand and own that he wants to live. Not just exist or even give up.

The love story is pretty realistic. I do think the author took a few short cuts that might have made the story just a little more well-rounded (like they had already dated and broken up). And there's no way they dated for two months and didn't have sex!

Overall a good read. Again, the quality of the writing itself is fantastic. The exploration and development of the characters w great, especially Jackson. And I didn't feel likew there was any forced event or climax. All in all great. Definitely a must read

This is my first Saints book, and I really enjoyed not only how well-written the novel is but also the very good (and not ridiculously far-fetched), well-developed plot. It seems lately that many of the romance books I've read are desperate to get a some sort of action or conflict going with supporting characters that anything goes. And that invariably ruins a book for me. Not so with Wild Irish. Very believable room start to finish. I also really enjoy feeling that it is finished. There's no rush to be done. It's a satisfying, complete finale. I got this book either free or cheap on kindle, but I'd pay regular price for it (and likely will have to for the remaining books in the series).

Despite being #4 in the Weldon brothers series HOT IRISH LASS can easily be read as a stand alone. Many series make that claim but not all live up to it. HOT IRISH LASS truly does.

At the tender age of sixteen Cierra Weldon took over her father’s stud and racing farm based on their Irish estate after the death of her parent’s in a car accident. Cierra has worked tirelessly toward the farms advancement and expansion into the U.S. This move will have the additional benefit of giving her freedom from her four overprotective brothers. Cierra’s only mis-step in her years on the world equestrian circuit was dating Sheik Hassan al Zayed. His extravagant gifts made her uncomfortable, prompting their return. He too wanted to cage Cierra, even if it was a golden cage. Since telling Hassan she had no interest in continuing a relationship she’s been plagued by a series of “incidents and accidents”. Cierra’s convinced al Zayed is behind all her troubles but he goes too far when her prized racehorse is horsenapped. If Cierra wants to save the farm and her freedom she has to solve this before her brothers discover and become involved. In a desperate attempt to stop al Zayed’s schemes to manipulate her and convince him of her disinterest she claims to be engaged to James Weldon.
James Weldon is a much removed cousin of Cierra. His branch left Ireland ages ago, coming to the New World and settling in Savannah, Georgia. He and Cierra meet when she makes an impromptu trip to visit this distant family branch. The attraction is mutual but James is an avowed bachelor. When Cierra fails to make his annual St. Patrick’s Day bash his curse of precognition kicks in. Thanks to the family’s security business, James is encouraged to head to New York to keep a watchful eye on Cierra. It seems there are dark and sinister forces surrounding her and her beloved horses.

Rather than being far-fetched, the international equestrian world lends itself perfectly to the terrorist premise of HOT IRISH LASS. Its international reach, appeal, money, and ability to move people and cargo with little or no restriction and/or scrutiny make it the perfect arena to implement terrorist activities worldwide.
HOT IRISH LASS is fast paced with plenty of suspense and action while also treating readers to a creditable, touching romance between Cierra and James. James’ curse adds mystery and a dash of convincing woo wooness; at least to a true Southerner. Scoff if you will but Southerners all know someone, usually in the family, who “knows” or has seen things. Ms. Saints is keeping it real in all respects. For plausible romantic suspense look no further than HOT IRISH LASS.

All I can say, honestly for this book, is wow. Wowwie wow wow. I got this book because it was free, and I am not disappointed at all. The characters are inviting and fun, and even within the first few pages I already felt a connection to Jesse and Alexi. All of the characters in the book had a realism to them that many authors find difficult to achieve, and I commend the author for that. The conflict within the story, the family interaction and drama, was perfect. The whole storyline was believable, and if you're in the mood for a little bit of sin this book doesn't disappoint either. The author did a fantastic job weaving a story that the reader became invested in, and I will make sure to get the author's next one!

I loved the characters in this book and overall enjoyed the book itself. But I felt like I was missing some key information to really understand what was going on. It was as if I'd jumped in part way through a series and found myself double checking to make sure I hadn't missed a previous book. Maybe the subsequent books will provide better explanations.

Titania, an illegitimate laundress, has been fascinating with the gloomy Trevelyan manor since she was a child. Although tragedy in recent years has lent it an ominous air, she is still drawn to the ominous mansion. Benedict Trevelyan, a widowed father of two young boys, is puzzled when Titania shows up on his door step to answer an advertisement for a tutor for his boys. Even though he was looking for a male tutor, she convinces him she is capable, and he hires her on a trial basis.

When Titania moves into the Trevelyan home, however, she finds herself embroiled in a mystery as she tries to solve the murder/suicide of Benedict's late wife while she learns to care for two lost little boys and eventually, their handsome and brooding father. The passion between Benedict and Titania sizzles, and their romance is tempered with a murder mystery, death threats, and the love growing between her and his sons. This is a well-written Gothic romance, filled with the mystery and dark, strong, brooding hero one would expect from this genre. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and relished the ending.

What detracted a bit from me, however, was the lack of plot originality. Anyone familiar with Daphne Du Maurier's "Rebecca" will find many similarities. I will not spoil the plot by listing them here, but there are several commonalities. Despite this, both the resolution and the love story between Benedict and Titania is different enough to render it an enjoyable read.
