This beautifully drawn graphic novel is about 200 pages of wide-screen, full-color action. The story is really good, as well, and I am looking forward to the sequel. The year is 2038, and the civilization is almost collapsed because of a virus that shortens a person’s life span to 21 years. Sundog’s tribe is featured here, and this group of kids has become very superstitious and fearful as a result. They regularly fight off another tribe of almost sub-human kids, and try to keep their traditions alive through various means. Once the tribe leader dies, he passes it on to the next strongest person in line. There is a relationship between Sundog and his life-long friend who is betrothed to the next-in-line.

When Sundog witnesses an old helicopter going down, and in it, an old man who claims he has the answer, Sundog tries to persuade his tribe to follow this man and get some help. Of course his new, unconventional ideas are met with resistance. This was a very cool story, similar in some ways to Jennifer Armstrong’s The Kindling.
