This is a gorgeous book which combines informational text and beautiful photography about the two types of sequoia trees: the redwood and the giant sequoia. George explains, among other facts, that while the redwood is the tallest tree in the world, the giant sequoia is the most massive. The author also addresses the lumber companies that began toppling the sequoias in the mid-1800's and the organizations that fought to preserve them. Although many of my students are familiar with the redwoods (since they grow in this area) many have never seen a giant sequoia. This book is almost as good as a field trip!… (altro)
