This was only OK. The characters were too contrived and extreme. Who goes on vacation with a friend only to absolutely ditch them for a hookup? And why was everyone so mad? These points were to wordily belabored...

There was so much going on in this book but it was so freaking good! I could not put it down and was completely absorbed in the characters and story while I was reading it. I definitely read it in one sitting because once I started it there was just no way I was going to be able to put it down!

I loved the relationship between Danielle and Matt. They had such a deep understanding of one another and I felt like the progression of their relationship was completely swoon-worthy. Matt was just so sweet and tender with Danielle and their feelings ran so deep. Plus, the chemistry between the two of them was completely electric.

As for the mystery and action, there was certainly plenty of it. There were twists and turns as the case continued to develop and Danielle and Matt continued to work on things together. I always love a good reporter/firefighter romance and the way these two characters played off each other was a great reminder as to why that's one of my favorite dynamics. This is the third book in The Outdoorsmen series, but each one can be read as a standalone. Though, I will definitely be going back to read the other two in the series and will continue reading books by Renee Gendron for sure! I strongly recommend this book, series, and author!

I found this book a bit of a slow starter-- or maybe I was just frustrated with the "hero"? for being so close lipped and not sharing information/talking to his princess wife. The story came together slowly and then - when I was fully invested in it-- I hit the last page! UGHHH I REALLY want to read the next book LOL

So with that frustration out of the way.... This was a really good story that leaves you wanting more. Glad I had the chance to read it.

A romance story with a twist and a married couple who don't really seem to be married at all. The marriage is arranged simply for the dowry to finance the construction of a temple beacon which could have ramifications throughout the world should it fail to be built.

The couple were to be kept separated so as to prevent any detraction from the building works, however Calanthe, the bride, decides her place is beside her husband, and in her own way, her logic and ideas subtly influence the progress of the project rather than detracting as was feared.

Looking forward to reading the sequel.
