Dectective William Gibson has beeen seconded from Vancouver Island, to help in setting up a major crimes task force. When a female body is discovered during a party on Canada Day, Gibson heads the investigation.
Although an entertaining story I didn't really take to the two main police characters.

Detective Inspector William Gibson of the Vancouver Island police is called out to the scene of a murder. The body is that of a maintenance worker on the university camopus and was found by a co-worker.
Just enough interest in the story to read to the end though I didn't take to the main characters

There is a wonderful formula of pace and setting in Kathy's books that creates a great mystery. Set around a castle and hotel on Vancouver Island, Sgt Flint of the RCMP must find out who has killed the estate's heir. It has the same dynamics as a closed-room mystery, but there is nothing claustrophobic about this book, as we are treated to all the atmosphere of the Island weather, and the delicate balance of relationships between the people who live there.

A jewelry store shooting is not quite what it seems, a man is beaten in an alley, and a woman detective has a difficult time protecting a small coastal town from breaking down.
A new departure for an excellent Canadian writer.
