A spaceship travels to the distant future to battle a fuel shortage.

2/4 (Indifferent).

It's better than season two. I didn't really have any fun, but apart from the pseudo-science plot holes and awful world-building, it's not cringe-inducing. It's just sort of there; it exists, and it's Star Trek. And for some reason, a simple mystery that would take past series 42 minutes to solve takes an entire season.½

Too much Klingons! The props and scenery budget is way more than the original. Some character complexity perhaps.

A spaceship investigates some time-travelling BS.

2/4 (indifferent).

I guess it wouldn't be Star Trek if it wasn't bad half the time. Unfortunately, with a season-long "story" arc, in this era that means it's bad for a 14-episode stretch.½

An experimental ship fights in a space war.

Great. It's Star Trek for grown-ups, what they call "dark and edgy." And I strongly dislike that about it. It gets a lot more right than it gets wrong - it's often gripping, it's got a great cast, and Tilly is the best Star Trek character ever. But it tries so hard to look and act like other popular shows that, despite being much higher quality than past Star Treks, it ultimately feels unimportant and forgettable.½

Well that left a lot of questions and a wide open space for another series.

Shadow Moon is about to get out of jail when he's suddenly let out early as his wife is dead, he discovers that his wife died in a car crash, with another man and it's all a huge mess. On the flight he meets Mr Wednesday who offers him a job.

Ian McShane chews the scenery in a spectacular fashion and this story of the supernatural and the ordinary is quite a good adaptation of the original story. I'm looking forward to more of this.

This consists of the 13 episodes of Wonderfalls, a very short-lived television series--only four of the episodes even aired. It was the gift of a friend who was probably attracted to it because Tim Minear's involvement with such shows as The X-Files, Lois and Clark, Angel and Firefly.

The series centers around Jayne Tyler, a 20-something Gen X slacker with a problem--as she put it, “animals with faces that aren’t really alive talk to me and tell me to do things.” Things that change people's lives, including her own. The characters really grew on me, and I liked the Niagara Falls setting--different than the usual Los Angeles or New York City. And at times I could really identify and empathize with the characters. I really liked Karma Chameleon, Crime Dog, Muffin Buffalo. The only episode I didn't like was Barrel Bear, where I just didn't buy how people acted. I can't help but feel it's such a shame this didn't catch on. It has a really quirky charm.

A friend gave me both Seasons of Dead Like Me, a short-running series that ran on Showtime. She loved it and thought I would too--and I did. It centers on Georgia "George" Lass who is only 18 years old at the time of her death--she dies from getting hit by a space toilet. Yes, she does right in the first episode! But she's not done, you see, because now she's become a "Reaper" taking souls who die in accidents, murder and suicide. There is a rather dark comedy running through this yes, but like Buffy, it mixes comedy with more serious themes. And dead she might be, this show really is about George growing up. And the supporting cast, particularly Mandy Patinkin, is fabulous. I'm so sorry the series ended with this season.
