Women's Board of the Ravinia Festival, Highland Park, Illinois. Cultural Arts Festival of music, dance, and theater began in 1904 for a twelve to fourteen week season. Proceeds from cook book sale support the Young Artists Institute of Ravinia Festival. Recipes chosen from nearly 2000 submissions and "twice tested" however contributors are collectively listed rather than with their submitted recipes . Specific comments such as "This unusual pre-Civil War recipe is divinely rich" for Southern Pecan Torte are rare. Unfortunately, there are no photos from Rivinia, the town, or the Festival.

This first collection from the Women's Board of the Ravinia Festival was designed for a time when women had time to prepare meals or who had staff to prepare meals. It is not a go to book for everyday occasions. Best suited for those with discriminating tastes. Not kid-friendly.

I lived close to Ravinia during the middle years of my marriage. We frequently attended musical productions, ballet and fundraisers there. I was thrilled when one of the fundraisers was this cookbook. It has become my "go to book" when entertaining. The mini mushroom tarts are so easy and taste so difficult. The gazpacho is top rated. I have yet to try a recipe from this book that didn't receive rave reviews from family and friends. My copy is falling apart, I keep patching it with clear packing tape. I hope they reissue it soon.
