YouAreHere is a website created by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to help children become smarter consumers. Set up as a virtual mall, the website is divided into four sections, each with different lessons and games. The West Terrace deals with advertisement and marketing, the Food Court explains competition and supply and demand, the Security Plaza gives tips on preventing identity theft and maintaining privacy, and the East Terrace provides details on tricks and rip offs that stores sometimes use. The alien-like characters are strange and the long-winded explanations can be a little annoying. However, the site does contain a lot of important consumer information in a fun and creative format. It is recommended for fourth through sixth graders. Because the site is verbally based, the site is more appropriate for home use, but could be promoted by both public and school libraries.
