My only regret is that I didn't read this book of courage, inspiration and hope while my dear friend Katherine was alive, so I could tell her what her words meant to me. My Mother was a Hat & Gloves Lady too. On a visit to Kosciusko, when I was about five years old, I wanted ice cream. My mother said she would not buy it because she refused to go to the back door to get it. It took a long time to understand what she meant, as I'd grown up in Chicago and had no idea.
