NO OF PAGES: 383 SUB CAT I: Commentary SUB CAT II: Writings SUB CAT III: DESCRIPTION: The Book of Job and anguished attempts of Job and his comrades to understand the ways of the creator have inspired and stimulated thinkers and philosophers for thousands of years. The ideas in this book are at the heart of the age old question: Why do bad people prosper while good people suffer? The lofty and uplifting poetry of the Book and the stimulating ideas of its protagonists are among the most complex in the entire Talmud. Add to this the relatively small number of major commentators who elucidate the Book's language and ideas. The result is a Book that is vital - but tantalizingly sealed to all but the greatest minds. In this work, one of the outstanding thinkers of the Torah world unlocks the treasures of Job. Rabbi Moshe Eisenmann brings to this task a lifetime of immersion in the Talmud and the works of such seminal thinkers as Maharal and Ramchal. He has proven his ability to illuminate difficult texts with his classic commentaries on Ezekiel and Chronicles. The depth of his ideas and the eloquence of his language make this new translation and commentary a landmark in the new genre of English language Torah commentary that is grounded in the teachings of the Sages. This work on Job is unprecedented. It will become the standard by which others are judged.NOTES: Purchased from Mesorah Publications, Ltd. NO OF PAGES: 492 SUB CAT I: Commentary SUB CAT II: Writings SUB CAT III: DESCRIPTION: The publication of this volume is a milestone, for the ArtScroll Series and for the field of Torah Commentary. To the casual reader, Chronicles seems so simple that he may wonder why it was canonized in the Sacred Writings. True, there are bits of new information here and there, but essentially Chronicles seems to be just a summary of earlier books of the Prophets. Seems t be, but isn't A careful study shows Chronicles to be one of the most perplexing and difficult books in all of Scriptures. Why are people listed in tribes and families where they don't belong? Why are familiar people giving unfamiliar names? Why is the life of King David as presented in Chronicles so different from the account in Samuel. And indeed, why would Ezra have composed the book and the Sages canonized it - unless it contained profound lessons for the Jewish people. In this study of Chronicles, Rabbi Moshe Eisenmann surpasses his magnificent commentary on the Book of Ezekiel. Basing himself on the available homiletical literature in the Talmud and Midrash and on the philosophical foundations of Maharal, Rabbi Eisenmann breaks new ground in this book. He provides an enlightening perspective on the text, on the role of King David in Jewish history, and on the place of Israel in the scheme of Creation. To say that this book is a precedent-setting work on Chronicles is surely true. It is more than that. It sheds light on Torah thought, Scriptural commentary, the goals of history, and the sweep of history. Six years in the making, this volume will more than fulfill the great expectations with which it has been awaited.NOTES: Purchased from Mesorah Publications, Ltd.
