The battle for Egypt is the feature for this segment of a not inspiring but interesting series.
John keeps moving upwards in his career with his flexibility and availability fitting him on small ships and large. His time ashore in Egypt confirms his choice of the navy as a career.½

John Wharton continues his naval career by serving at the Battle of the Nile and surviving. His battered ship requires much repair so he is seconded to another ship in the interim. A strong performance there jumps him nicely to the next level, a lieutenancy.½

A good start to an Age of Sails Series
This first episode moves along well with the main characters stepping nicely through a large but lively set of adventures.½

Familiar territory for books of this genre but still a story well told. Not much room left in the Napoleonic Era. But another story or two would be welcome½

A short but good series.

Lots of action in the final book of this series as the author moves briskly through the dull parts of the Captain’s career. He served in most of the interesting areas of the HMS during his time at sea and was quite successful with his accumulation of prize money.½
