Deputy Chief Vincent Dunn (retired) is a 42-year veteran of the New York City Fire Department (FDNY). Chief Dunn is a recognized authority on burning building collapse and the recipient of many awards acknowledging his achievements: "Man of the Year" (1990) by the Society of Fire Protection mostra altro Engineers; the Edward W. Whalen Award (1995) by the Fire Safety Directors of New York City; a Lifetime Achievement Award (1999) by Fire Engineering magazine; and a Lifetime Achievement Award (2000) by the New York City Fire Department. Vincent Dunn is the author of a number of textbooks: Safety and Survival on the Fireground (Fire Engineering, 1992), Command and Control of Fires and Emergencies (Fire Engineering, 1999), and Strategy of Firefighting (Fire Engineering, 2007). He is a contributing editor at Firehouse magazine. Dunn has developed and taught numerous courses for the FDNY, the FBI, and the National Fire Academy. As an assistant professor at Manhattan College, Chief Dunn developed and taught a course on fire protection design in the civil engineering department. He currently teaches a course on firefighting strategy and tactics at John Jay College, City University of New York. Attending college at nights with the assistance of the G.I. Bill, Chief Dunn earned a master's degree in urban studies, a bachelor's degree in sociology, and an associate's degree in fire administration from Queens College, City University of New York.
