A very interesting plan for our lives that the author believes will give happiness not only to others but to ourselves as well. As an adult David Dunn, discovered that with giving-away to others comes an inner glow of pleasure that is beyond calculation. Mr. Dunn is not speaking about giving money, although that may sometimes factor in, but rather of giving small spontaneous acts of helpfulness, compliments, appreciation, noticing, and thankfulness. In his book he gives examples of how small acts of goodness can release a power of healing, again in both directions--giver and receiver. One chapter relates how showing interest in someone's hobby or vocation can open up a fascinating window into another life. Most of us are too wrapped up in ourselves to show such a sustained interest in others. Mr. Dunn is very much in favor of sending notes, something our age does not appreciate, but we have other numerous ways now to quickly communicate our thanks or compliments. Three things he stresses: be spontaneous, don't expect something in return, and it takes practice to perfect this art of happiness giving and receiving.… (altro)
