Rainforest Animals continues Dubosque's method of organized, repeated practice to create drawings of something "you really like." He suggests periodic evaluation of the work in progress, holding it to a mirror or a light for a different view. Brief information about each animal precedes the sketching, along with the admonition to "always draw lightly at first." Well-written directions and lots of white space on each page make this an attractive book. Includes mostly South American rainforest animals and birds, but also the orangutan, iguana, tapir, pangolin, loris, etc.

Ein wirklich tolles Werk. Es genügt ohne Zweifel nicht wissenschaftlichen Ansprüchen, was man zum Teil auch dem Alter der Erstausgabe anlasten kann, aber zeichnerisch ist es wirklich eine Ausnahme unter den vielen Dinosaurier-Malbüchern. Anstatt nur Umrisslinien zu präsentieren, wird in diesem Buch auch auf Schraffuren (und indirekt auf Schattenwurf), die Umgebung und die generelle Vorgehensweise eingegangen. Die Bücher von Doug DuBosque sind etwas textlastiger als viele ähnliche Bücher, was ich als sehr positiv empfinde: Zum sicherlich hilfreichen und notwendigen Nachmachen gesellt hier somit auch unmittelbar das Verstehen.
