I like the broadest definitions of words. "Addiction" - "a compulsive attempt to generate or abolish a feeling." The author drank as a sport. Brilliant use of the sport metaphor, and the derivative lessons drawn from the excitement and accomplishments of athletes, to support recovery from compulsive behavior.
