This was utterly ridiculous.

I really liked it!

This sequel didn't capture my interest as much as the first book [Boys of Summer] and I'm not sure why.½

A very beautiful OFY story. It's written in 1st person, which is not usually a favourite, but in this instance worked extremely well in showing the reader Hunter's thought process with regard to his relationship with Max.

The plot had just a few too many holes in it for me to rate it much higher. I did enjoy the interaction of the two MCs and the slow reveal using flashbacks worked well for me.½

This story wasn't for me. I could not get interested in the plot. I don't know if it was the mood I was in or if the storyline wasn't exciting enough for me.

Utterly defeated by the purple prose. If you like KJ Charles or even Joanna Chambers, this is not like it. The book reads like someone took an old letter for language reference, then proceeded to write EVERYTHING in the style of the very, very flowery closing.

I liked the basic idea, but apart from the writing style it's just too "I want you/nooo I can't", especially seeing that one MC fucking hired the other one to finally have sex with a man, and so far the whole book is a drawn out description after the other of one tiny step ahead in the teenage making out, then a lot of introspection and drama about that one step. And I'm talking about a kiss, a buttgrope, a first hickey here - all this between an alleged king and an allegedly trained concubine, and nothing makes any sense.

Fans of classic bodice rippers might like this, I'm not sure. Not for me, though.

4 stars. Really enjoyed this one (more than the first book, actually). Hunter and Max are just so much in love. I felt like the story dragged a little in the middle (not that it wasn't interesting, I just wasn't sure what else they had to work out between them). Loved the characters, the sex was smokin', and besides my slight niggle, thoroughly enjoyed the story. Recommended! (though you should read the first book in the series first!)

It is a delightful coming out story of Hunter Willis who after several emotional deliberations finally proclaims where his heart truly belongs; in the empathetic arms of Maxwell Daniels. It is one the sweetest books I have read in a long time fêted with an old fashioned romance for keeps with the unmistakably celebratory Tiffany’s Silver trinket.

Ok story. I didn't like the flipping past and present. I kept getting confused and having to re-read part of the story. Don't know that I would read anything else be the author.

A gay werewolf cliche-fest. Insta-love on top (irresistable mate smell included...). There was pretty much nothing about this book that I liked.
Both MCs were Alpha (althoug constantly callilng each other "babe" or "baby", an "alpha" or "cowboy" thrown in once or twice...arrrghhh) - no real dynamic in the relationship. They fell in love based on physical appearance, and of course because they are meant to be mates. There was a convoluted back-story about some werewolf clan feud, which never really was explained and simply ceased to exist - surprisingly - in the aftermath of the happily ever after.
Also thrown in the mix: a strange crime plot (including the mutliple rape of one of the MCs) which didn't make any sense whatsoever for the story - also aggravating: the culprits obviously didn't have two brain cells to rub together.

Very sweet and romantic. It was all about Hunter's inner struggles as he tries to adjust to others knowing that he's gay and in love with Max. It really was so sweet that I think I was smiling all the while reading.

I love paranormal M/M romance, so I eagerly ordered this when it popped up under recommended also. It has a nice twist that is not too common – two alpha werewolves attracted, rather than the standard dominant/submissive. However, after finishing it, I was torn over whether to give it three stars or four. Three because it left me sad, despite the HEA. Four because it was so well written.

Most romances introduce drama or tension into the relationship to build a story. Too often for my taste it is based solely on angst; here, the author gave the couple a more substantial, albeit tragic, plotline. Hayden and Josh have been apart for five years following one disastrous night that destroyed Hayden’s life and his trust in Josh. A night he doesn’t even remember. Now, the Elders have requested they become mates to unite their warring clans. Can they heal enough to do so? I won’t spoil it here, but the storyline was just too dark for me, leaving a pall of sadness over the HEA.

Overall, this was a well written book with good characterization of the two protagonists and a comfortable paranormal setting. And I continued thinking about it after finishing, which is usually a good sign. Though this one was dark, I enjoyed it enough that I would definitely read another book in what I expect will be a “Forces of Nature” series.

The same type of cute characters Cooper Davis had in her previous novel, Boys of Summer, are again in this new novel, even if this time the genre is different, Paranormal instead of Contemporary. But even if the men involved are werewolves, nevertheless they are innocent, almost naive, and it’s strange since both of them should be Alpha males, usually the strongest and toughest of the pack.

Hayden and Josh are born and raised in the same small town in Wyoming but in different packs. They are both first son of their respective Alpha, and so destined to be heir the power, but like in ordinary society, even in werewolves pack there are different classes, and Hayden is from a privileged one, wealthy family and with a paved path in front of him, Ivy League college and brilliant future, where instead Josh is little more than a blue collar, with only an handsome look helping him to distinguish among the crowd. But like in an old romance of the ’50, the wealthy offspring is desperately in love for the boy from the wrong side of the city, and Hayden would do everything for a simple look from his unrequited love.

There is a constant change in balance between Hayden and Josh: Hayden is richer and more clever than Josh, WASP good boy next door against blue collar bad boy; Josh is apparently more “lived” and experienced than Hayden; Hayden is a strongest Alpha than Josh, but Josh is more lively. If one excels in something the other outdoes him in something else, and then there is the common ground, both 22 years old and both Alpha heir of their packs.

As the swing between the two of them, there is also a swing in the timeline of the story: two storylines, one about them at 22 years old and one 5 years after. Something happened in the middle, and little by little, the first storyline give elements to the second to reveal a very dramatic truth, probably the only sad side of the story. Other than that, the story is very sweet, and very sexy: there are some sex scene between Hayden and Josh that are really good, enough detailed but not vulgar, the main feeling I had from them it was of tenderness; in it plays one other of the change of balance between Hayden and Josh, Josh can be the more experienced of things of life but when you narrow the focus on man on man love, it’s Hayden the one with the knife by the handle, Josh is a total “virgin” and he needs to be lead step by step by Hayden. It’s important for Hayden, it gave him strength and courage; after this experience, nor Hayden, or Josh, or the reader, has any doubt of who the real Alpha is.

Again, I’d like to highlight that, even if dealing with Alpha males, and two of them actually, the story maintains a sweet and playful tone, with just the right dose of high emotional involvement, and basically all the insecurities of two young men who are facing first and true love.

Recently I read a gay romance written by a man and my comment was that it was the proof that men can write romance. But still I think their intake on the romance is different from the one of a woman. Woman are more brainiac, they always did things more complicated than necessary. Like in this case: Boys of Summer is basically a simple story, but all the brainstorming happening inside the mind of one of the character makes it complicated only to realize in the end than complicated is not. Now I'm not saying it in a derogatory way, I like both men in this story, but maybe they are behaving more like a woman would do in the same situation, and so perhaps this is the reason why I can identify so much in Hunter's trouble.

When the story starts, Hunter and Max have already realized that their story is something more than friendship, after some years they met, one night at the beginning of summer Max kissed Hunter and their love story started. Only that Max, even if handsome, self-assured and wealthy, is still a virgin to sex (both with men than women), and to finally give his virginity to someone else, he wants for it to be a true gift of love, and he wants for it to be with the right man, the man that will remain in the bed the morning after, the man with whom he can build a life together.

Hunter knows he loves Max, but he isn't so sure that he wants to commit to that level. For all the summer they met every night, they did heavy petting, but Hunter left every morning at dawn on his motorcycle (another quite romance image). Hunter and Max are part of a tight circle of friends, Max's childhood ex-girlfriend Louisa and Hunter former girlfriend Veronica are part of it, and so is Max's neighbor Ben... coming out as Max's boyfriend for Hunter means coming out full front with a lot of people and changing all his life. It's not a simple decision, and they decided to go on holiday together, far from all their friends, to see if their story has a future.

So at the end of summer we find Hunter and Max together, and we read the story from Hunter's point of view. There is no doubt in Hunter's mind and heart that he loves Max, and it's not that the problem. Truth be told, I don't think it's even a problem for Hunter coming out, admitting he is gay. I have the feeling that Hunter's trouble is one common to a lot of people, he fears to commit, he fears to settling down with one person, to do the shift from boy to man. I really don't think it's the 'gay' thing the problem, I think Hunter is more a good and friendly boy who reached that point in life when he has to do something right. In a way, this made him even more real, more masculine... the fear to commit, to settle down, is very common in young men, maybe the way Hunter brains over it it's more a woman's thing, but aside that, Hunter is all 'man' in his behavior.

When he finally decides that he wants something more with Max, he becomes all 'boyfriend' attitude, carrying heavy things for his lover, beaming when Max is doting over him cooking or doing other sweet things. For good part of the book, Max has really a 'bottom' attitude, he has even the teasing behavior that usually women have when they want something, he even uses the sex card, denying Hunter till the moment the man surrenders to his desires. I like how the author chooses to give also to Max his mainly moment, to scroll down a bit from him the idea that he was a bit too feminine.

Boys of Summer is only a novella, and the first book I read by this author, but I like it. It's sweet and sugar, a bit of an old fashioned romance, and sometime it's refreshing to go back to simple and nice stories like this one.
