This was an interesting read and very different from what I was originally expecting here.
This had so many actual twists and turns that it managed to capture my attention so effortlessly.
It was well written a page-turner that really was addictive reading.
Claire as a character I felt for her so much, her backstory in regards to her daughter made my own heart hurt so much.
But for sure she certainly was a lousy judge of character.
She has surrounded herself with toxic relationships from her so-called friends who have obviously never read the girl code rule book (What Traitors) to her waste of space husband Derek.
Derek, himself has managed to isolate Claire manipulating and controlling the situation itself until she really has no way left to turn.
Add in that venomous viper Jasmine who was such a piece of work and I was internally screaming put your foot down and issue your waste of space husband an ultimatum they are both taking the mick so badly.
So Zach who for me was a surprise addition and what I saw of him I really liked a lot: he was mysterious, sexy and seemed protective of Claire but I did feel his input here was slightly limited and I would have liked to have got more of an insight into how he ticked.
I felt this would have been better served being told in dual POV rather than just from Claire's side of the fence.
I really would have liked to explore Zach in more depth rather than just the superficial and felt this one-sided style of narration limited that slightly.
We did get a snippet in the epilogue from him but this was really not enough to satisfy me.
This was a great read that I enjoyed a lot a thumbs up from me.
I voluntary reviewed a copy of The Scream Behind Her Smile.

GOODNESS, I COULDN'T STOP READING!! I felt sorry for Claire losing her child and I felt anger at her husband for his lack of almost caring that his Katie-bear had died. Claire Hardt goes through her days of taking pills and designing gowns just to get her through each day. Derek Hardt is an accountant who travels through Australia for days, and weeks at a time, but suddenly a woman shows up on her doorstep saying that Derek invited her to stay at their home until she could find an apartment and gets coy with her husband. This book had me shedding tears and I was filled with hatred when Derek showed his true colors.

OH DANG, WHAT A SCARY BOOK, and I'm not easy to frighten! I felt sorry for the child called Annie who had been raped by a family member and when it was known that she was pregnant, the teen was sent to Rookwood where she was at the mercy of a mad doctor and nurses that cared little about their patients! Then the place caught fire and every person in it died a horrible way. I liked Dr. of history, Paul Maham, an American moved into Rookwood Apartments and he couldn't believe his luck at finding a place to live that was elegant but affordable. NOW I CAN'T WAIT TO READ BOOK 2!

Wow! Once I started this book it was very hard to put it down, almost every waking moment that I had, I was reading this book. It kept me engaged from the first page to the very last. On the edge of my seat excitement is exactly how I felt while I was reading this book. I'm not going to go into a lot of detail in this review like some others may do because I don't want to take anything away from your enjoyment of reading it. All I can tell you is that you don't want to miss reading this book, it is absolutely fantastic until the very last page. Happy reading everyone 😉

REVIEW: A couple of times, I started to read this at bedtime. But the story has a chilling intensity that makes it great writing but not necessarily a relaxing read. Even without the evil demon and the curses, the romantic interplay between Rachel and Daniel is solid. Add in a loveable dog and some family drama and this book is a winner all the way around. This is my voluntary review of an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

DESCRIPTION, NOT REVIEW: RACHEL is being watched.
.
The hair on the back of her neck stands on end, and she fights a strong impulse to run. Across a span of clear turquoise water, listing at an unnatural angle, a shipwrecked fishing trawler, the Anna-Marie, sits wedged against a coral reef.
.
Walking away isn't an option.
.
A week ago, Rachel and fellow Trinity Beat band members, Rob and Trey, ventured onto the haunted wreck in the middle of the night. They didn't believe in ghosts, much less curses.
.
But Rachel and her friends encounter something that night. An evil not of this world. And now Trey is dead, Rob is missing, and Rachel's memory of the night is gone.
.
And whatever they disturbed that night, has followed her home...
