Right from the violent beginning this book had me gripped. I'm not normally one for crime stories with descriptions of violence, but in this instance most of it is alluded to rather than described. You know who the guilty party is, but the story is in the chase. And how the people around come to put the pieces together and eventually realise they may have a killer in their midst.

It's very easy to read, with a few twists and turns. But also with some thought-provoking and disturbing scenes set during WW2.

I only had one little gripe and that was some of the dialogue supposedly set in 1940's Brighton was a bit too modern. Phrases like "symptoms of some very deep emotional problems" just struck a wrong note with me.… (altro)
