Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of this story, this is my honest and objective review. Alt universe Elizabethan England, in this version magical creatures co-exist with humans. Humans on the surface, magical beings have an underground kingdom. Our main characters are Lazare and Fang, both killed but then came back to life as magical creatures. But what kind they are, and why they didn't die, is a mystery to them and everyone around them. I liked the story, the author has a nice comedic voice, great dialogue and action. Just the right amount of fantasy, not so much that it overwhelms a casual reader of fantasy like myself. Grumpy sunshine, gallant Lazare and big-hearted but self-sabotaging Fang are good together. Great supporting characters. There are several different storylines winding throughout, kind of a lot going on but still a quick read. Also, I love the cover art! This is the first in a series; it ends with some unresolved storylines that I assume will be the focus of future books in the series. My main issue is that there should be some content warnings for some events that we discover in the second half of the book, I'm not going to mention what they are here because spoilers, but I hope that by the time this goes to press the author and publisher decides to add them. This is a new-to-me author but I would definitely read her again.½

Wish I liked it; an English family goes around saving people and hunting things—more of the latter than the former, really. Unfortunately they were all flip and blasé from the get-go, and largely hateful to each other, and I felt I was being told more than shown that actually they really loved each other. But if you miss SPN and do enjoy families being mean to each other because they know each other really well, then there’s demons, ghosts, and a family business that rubs up against the apocalypse when they go to try to clean out a church on a very odd island. And the reason the horrible mom is horrible is actually quite understandable, even if you don’t feel inclined to excuse her.½

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Such Big Teeth is a fantastic twist on the beloved fairy tales I read as a child. Even though is intended as a middle grade book, I found that adults can throughly enjoyed the very cleverly crafted jokes throughout. The characters are fantastic (pun intended!); I personally would love to be friends with Trevor.
The book is the second installment in the Darkwood series, but it can be enjoyed thoroughly if read as a stand alone. Oh and that cover? Bewitching!

An enjoyable continuation of the series. The characters are well developed and the story moves along nicely. I recommend if you enjoy fairy tales, and want a different look at them. Well done! Thanks to NetGalley for providing an ARC in exchange for my review.

Can't wait for more in this series. A cool take on classic fairy tale figures, but also relevant to modern happenings. Great characters, fun plot. I will definitely pick up the next book in the series. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

The Rook family is a real olio of characters! I'm not even going to try to summarize or hit the high points because I am so LOL,LMFAO and that's the biggest takeaway from reading this hilarity. Absolutely fantastic fun!
I requested and received a free temporary ebook copy from Farrago Books via NetGalley. Thank you!

Really well done middle grade, but I think readable and enjoyable for all ages. The humour is great, and the way the story unfolded was very well done. I very much look forward to more in this series.

I didn't realize that this was a Middle-Grade book when I accepted the review request so you can pass the title along to your kids or neighbors as something they might like, or read it yourself. It was hilarious and inspired a bit by Terry Pratchett.

The kingdom of Myrsina has a lot of rules. No magic, no girls are doing math and science. This retelling of Hansel and Gretel (with some twists) explores more important themes like authoritarianism in a way that Middle Schoolers and Teens will enjoy and hopefully learn something from. I’m a big fan of fairytales and folklore, and I was disappointed that it was such a quick read.

Since this is just coming out, we'll have to wait for ages for a sequel which is a shame. It's in my top 5 for Summer kids titles for sure.

The story is a fun re-telling of a mixture of fairy tales and fables. Witty and colorful, the story of Hansel and Gretel comes to life in new ways. Memorable characters, jaunty plot, impish humor, and great dialogue make the pages fly by. Eager to see where this series goes.½
