The art (intended, as the artist says, to be more like banners or emblems than true-to-life illustrations; they are quite representative) is lovely and makes it a little easier to go through the many pages of these species, because, first and foremost . . . this book is very sobering, if you actually consider the numbers and information provided with many of the species shown.

It's a relief and a pleasure to see the ones marked delisted, the population numbers rebuilt, but there are so many more that have not, including even one that may be extinct.

The awareness and the consideration the book encourage may not be entirely comfortable, but that is perhaps not a bad thing.… (altro)
