when a teacher combines the three methods students achieve the best possible
education. The Samuel Applebaum, Paul Rolland, and Shinichi Suzuki methods
of string teaching are used by string educators worldwide. While there are many
new ideas for teaching strings in schools, their roots stem back to these three
men. Each of these concepts takes a different approach to the method used to
teach beginning string students. Some believe in starting by rote while others
believe in starting by note reading. Some use CD’s to enhance ear training,
others do not. Teachers are flooded with ideas as to which approach is best and
most beneficial to their students. Each of these methods have similarities and
differences; but all three, when taught correctly, produce strong string players.
