I checked this book out from the library all the time when I was in high school, dreaming of the house I would someday have. I decided when I grew up I would have two things in my new house - a duvet and a bidet. As it turns out, I have neither! But I did get rid of my bedspread and got a comforter instead and haven't looked back on that decision.

Forty years ago, I was planning a new house, and therefore kitchen. This book was very useful. In the meantime, it looks very out of date. I'm sure the basics haven't changed, but a lot of the details have. Time to let it go.

Gorgeous book of photos that just encapsulates what France is all about. Unlike most travel books that take you through a country region by region, Conran has sections on 'rural life', 'the French home' and 'the food of France' among others, and you get a glorious range of pictures from all over

I should clarify this was a good book - lots of detail, just not exactly what I was looking for, so I probably should have made it 3 stars.

The decor is a little outdated, but the advice couldn't be more right. I love Terence Conran, and in this book he provides great tips and inspiration for making a small space work. A warning to those who rent: this book has a lot of wonderful advice about making structural changes and built-ins. It can be a little sad to see all these life-improving options and not be able to implement them.½

As always nicely illustrated and useful for a "middle class" gardener with a town small plot and some recipes too.½

A very nice introduction book about storage and how to be organized at home. This is starting with simple recommendations like getting rid of useless things in your home or keeping a clear view around you. The book is heavily relying on very nice photographies to match the corresponding text or concept explained. I especially enjoyed the section "Home Office" giving some basic ideas or concepts. The minor drawback is the lack of detailed information for organizing some specific parts like book shelves or how to keep a clear separation between home office and the real home.A very good introduction book about getting organized at home.½
