Christiane Crasemann Collins was born in Hamburg, Germany on February 14, 1926. When she was only a few days old, her family moved to Chile. She received a bachelor's degree in art history from Carleton College in 1949 and master's degrees in art history and library science from Columbia mostra altro University. She became an American citizen in 1972 and was the director of the Adam and Sophie Gimbel Design Library at Parsons School of Design in New York from 1973 to 1983. She was a historian of urban planning. She wrote several books including Werner Hegemann and the Search for Universal Urbanism, A Storm Foretold: Columbia University and Morningside Heights 1968, and Camillo Sitte and the Birth of Modern City Planning written with her husband George Collins.
