NCLA Review - A funny thing happened when I was reviewing this book…I usually don’t read them in depth. I usually don’t have time. But each time I picked this book up to try and skim, it just didn’t work. The writers would grab me, enlighten me, encourage me or amuse me into reading their entire section! I have to say also, that I didn’t recognize many of the names of the authors collected into this work, but I will make note of them from now on. If you like to write, this book is for you. If you are weary of the weak prose that sometimes passes for spirituality, this book is for you. And if you need uplifting and refreshing points of view, this is definitely for you. I am rating this book a 4 as this is the highest rating we can give, but if I could rate it higher I would. A great read for in depth discussion or for personal discovery. Rating: 4 —CSP… (altro)

NCLA Review - This is a well-crafted book that examines what prayer is and what it does with the goal of making it a more central part of the reader’s life. Cole says that he wrote this book as an alternative to “New Age,” which relies on meditation and “the Gospel of Prosperity,” which promises success, money, and acclaim. The author asks and answers six questions: What is prayer? Why do we pray? What are the benefits of prayer? With whom do we pray? How do we pray? and How do we keep praying? The book presents these principal aspects of prayer in a straightforward, easily understood format. It also has notes at the end with scripture references, sample prayers and exercises, and a list of devotional books. Librarians and individual considering the purchase of this book should check their shelves for the number of books about prayer currently in their collections. If the answer is several, this one doesn’t add substantially to the subject. Rating: 2 —AMB… (altro)
