Reasonably better than the mermaid one. Though quite like it in a lot of ways. Very girly. Very.. well, princesses don't _do_ a whole lot, but look pretty, attend parties, and turn down offers of marriage. This is the first time I realized that these books were originally published in the UK though. As there were a couple of games depicted in the drawing of the party that I hadn't heard of -- Musical Statues and Pass the Parcel. As well as a Fizzy Drinks Fountain. I love that though.. 'fizzy drinks' sounds so much better than soda or even pop.Anyhow, don't expect any boys to play along with your princesses with the help of this book. Unless they enjoy proposing marriage and getting rejected.

Now, this one just strikes me as very odd right from the start. All of the other books were historical and/or fantasy themed. I can easily categorize pirates, princesses, and knights with wizards, fairies and mermaids. But ballerina? I mean, that's a real thing. That's nothing but a real thing. I don't remember reading any fairy tales or folk stories about ballerinas. (Though there is at least one fantasy anime, but that's beside the point.)Basically, here's one Imagine You're A... book where you actually _could_ be it. If you're A) A Girl. B) Have the right body type. C) Are able-bodied. B is specifically stated. C is something I added, assuming it's implied. As for A, being a girl, there is one paragraph about male dancers. They have to be strong. But of course male dancers aren't 'ballerinas', so mostly the book is not about them.It teaches you first position, etc, and terms like plie' and briefly describes a handful of famous ballets. (Spoiler alert: They're mostly depressing.)All in all, my favorite of these books are the Pirate and the Wizard ones. The rest aren't nearly as good, for a variety of reasons, including gender inequality.

Ages 4 and Up. Even from the cover, which announces the authors as 'Peg Leg Meg and Lucy Blackheart,' Imagine You're a Pirate is a very fun book. The childlike illustrations, done in paint, collage, and glitter create the sense of whimsy in this picture book - and could be easily replicated by children. Imagine You're a Pirate takes the reader through pirate rules, pirate sayings, and famous pirates, among other things. Both informative and tongue-in-cheek, this book would be well-liked by adult readers as well.
Recommended for all picture book collections.
