A beautifully made film, on the topic of loss and redemption. Featuring a heartbroken mother and son, and a dour hermit who is an excellent woodcarver. Set in small-town USA (despite being made in the UK with most of the actors being British), this is moving, poignant, and with believable acting. Luke Ward-Wilkinson as ten-year-old Thomas is wonderful.

One of the best Christmas films we've seen, one we hope to see regularly over the next couple of decades.
