Michael Cimino (1) (1939–)

Michael Cimino wrote and directed this film, and no doubt it led to his increasing success, then the debacle of Heaven's Gate. Eastwood and Bridges make a great pair and are well supported by a host of familiar faces--although you may not always know where they are familiar from until you look up everyone on imdb.com. As good as the actors are, however, I think the real stars of the film are the cars--mostly old and decrepit, except for the first one and the last one--and even moreso, the American West. The location shooting, in Montana, makes me want to get in the car and start driving in that direction. It's summer now of course--as it was in the movie--and it is just spectacular. I'll give myself credit for seeing the ironic ending coming--and even the ending after the ending.… (altro)
