The author takes us on a first hand account of his life story and his dedication to the art of taekwondo. We begin in Korea just before the Korean war and learn why taekwondo is a noble and positive recreation for children, offering them challenges and lessons that they will reflect upon for their entire lives. We follow the author as he takes taekwondo to America not knowing how he and his art wiill be received. Then we learn how taekwondo plays a major role in the Grand Master's pursuit of a life in America and we cheer him on as he overcomes the difficulties a non-English speaking immigrant discovers in the USA. From celebrity students (Donald Trump, Mayor Giuliani, Gregory Hines) to everyday citizens, Master Chun offers us the key to living a life of contribution to humanity through taekwondo.

Deepen your understanding of taekwondo traditions.
Inspiration and advice for a lifetime of practice.
For all styles and all levels of experience.

Advancing in Tai Kwon Do, in over 600 illustrations, demonstrates and explains the advanced techniques needed to acquire the coveted black belt in this martial art.

Korean tae kwon do ('the art of kicking and boxing') has elements of Japanese karate and chinese kung fu, but the uniqueness of tae kwon do lies in its incomparable kicking techniques. This book is the companion volume to the authr's classic Tae Kwon Do: The Korean Martial Art, which was an introductin to the art. This volume, which also reviews the basic history and philosophy of tae kwon do, illustrates the technques advanced students must learn to master the art. The book covers 'Training for various hand and foot techniques,' 'sparring,' 'self-defense,' ' breaking,' and the 'forms.' Included also are the competition rules and regulations of the World Tae Kwon Do Federation, which is the rule-governing body for the tae kwon do competition in the Olympic games.

Tae kwon do is an exact system of symmetrical body exercises develooped in Korea two thousand years ago, designed for effective unarmed self-defense and counterattack. Essential to the art is a disciplined state of mind: self-control, restraint, patience, and hhumility are learned and must accompany physical prowess.

Tae kwon do, which has over 10 million practitioners in the United States alone-plus other millions all over the world-has now been recognized by the Olympic Committee and, through the World Tae Kwon Do Federation, will be represented in competition in the Olympics.

Richard Chun is among the highest-ranking Grand Master Instructors of tae kwon do in the world. In 1989 he was promoted by Kuk Ki Won and the World Tae Kwon Do Federation to 9th dan black belt. He is one of a few to attain this distinguished rank. Richard Chun is an International Master Instructor appointed by both Korea Tae Kwon Do Association and the WTF. In 1973 he was head coach of the U.S. team, competing in the First World Tae Kwon Do Championships in seoul, Korea, in which the U.S. team won second place. The same year he was appointed an international referee by the World Tae Kwon Do Federation. Master Chun served as technical director of the 2nd World Tae Kwon Do Championships in Seoul, 1975, and of the 3rd World Tae Kwon Do Championships in Chicago, 1977. The following year he was elected President of the United States Tae Kwon Do Association and was inducted into the Black Belt Hall of Fame. In 1980 he was named Special Assistant to the President of the World Tae Kwon Do Federation, which has more than 140 members countries. He received his MBA in Marketing and Ph. D. in Education, and is currently a Professor in the Department of Health and Physical Education at Hunter College, City University of New York. In Community Service, Dr. Chun has served various New York communities to help make them a better place to live in by helping the needy.
