Claudia Christian takes an honest and sometimes brutal look at her life in this book. She includes the good bits and the bad bits, the love, sex and addiction to alcohol. The last section of the book deals with Claudia's battle with alcoholism - her "demon" - and the variety of methods she tried to find a cure. She eventually found a method that worked for her - the Sinclair Method. The last chapter includes a doctor explaining the method. I found this book insightful when dealing with my not-always-sober father-in-law and I'm sure this book would prove useful or at least helpful for those dealing with alcohol addiction.… (altro)

A lot of celebrities who write their biographies gloss over the bad moments in their lives. Claudia Christian puts hers right out in front for all to see.
As I was reading this book I had tears rolling down my cheeks. As I read about the rape, the abortions, the miscarriage and the alcoholism. I kept saying to myself "how much more can she take". You think she's down for the count then she picks herself back up. She amazes me.
I must admit that before reading this book I only knew Claudia from her role on the TV show Babylon 5. It's only while I was reading that I learned she has a long work resume.
The way the book was written gave me a new prospective on alcoholism.
Her writing about the Sinclair Method and getting the information out to people who need it is wonderful. I think about the people who could have been helped by this method. Case in point Jerry Doyle (Michael Garabaldi on Babylon 5) who died from natural causes, with complications from chronic alcoholism being a contributing factor.
Please don't think this book is only about the bad things in her life. There are many happy events and behind the scenes stories.

Claudia Christian pulls no punches as she reveals her stormy battle against the monster, alcoholism.

Throughout this riveting memoir, the reader goes from page to page hoping and praying for a miracle for Claudia. But none comes until the very last pages of the book.

In between bouts of addictive behavior, Claudia searches for sobriety through her personal relationship with numerous lovers (some famous, others no so famous); waiting for the phone to ring that would hopefully herald a new role for her to play, one in which she could focus all her energy and attention in order to keep the 'monster' at bay.

Although primarily known for her role as Commander Susan Ivanova in Babylon 5, Claudia has also appeared in a score of other motion picture and television productions.

Ultimately, Claudia overcomes her alcoholic demon through what is known as 'The Sinclair Method' and is now a major spokesperson for this alternative and obviously effective treatment for addiction to alcohol.

With evocative descriptions of life behind-the-scenes of many of the productions she's been involved with, of her often tumultuous family and personal life, of her alcoholic binges and recoveries, as well as her own humorous and verbal approaches to life -- this book is a must-read not only for fans, but for those who also struggle with an addiction to alcohol.

Babylon Confidential is a gripping book that had me thrilled with Claudia's successes, aghast at the machinations of Hollywood, and horrified with the lengths to which her addiction drove her. Many of her stories involving other celebrities were fascinating. The way that she presented both the events and her feelings about them with unrelenting openness made reading the book a very enriching experience. I can highly recommend it.

Despite her having been dragged by her addiction through some of the the deeper ditches in hell, this is the only non-fiction book involving alcoholism I know of with a truly happy ending. If this were fiction, I would call the sudden shift to being able to control and eventually eliminate her alcoholism to be deus ex machina. Life is stranger than fiction, though, and I've witnessed dozens of others benefit similarly from the treatment she describes.… (altro)
