Heroism isn't easy as a boy battles deadly beasts—inside and out.

Cameron might have saved the world last summer, but as another year rolls by, he hits summer camp with more anxiety than before. The hero's welcome is huge, but the Beast inside of him is sure it's not deserved and he'll only disappoint everyone...especially when evil shows its face again. Shadow-wraiths are threatening them all, and everyone is looking toward him to lead the fight. Everyone but a bully from his past. Faced against monsters from every direction, Cameron has no idea how he'll save anyone this time.

This is an imaginative tale packed with adventure, dangerous situations, and magic. From a secret society to monsters from another realm, Cameron finds himself wrapped up in more than most kids his age could ever dream of handling. The sticky situations pop up, one after the other, keeping the tension, at those moments, high and making it hard to guess what Cameron and his friends will face next. The stakes soar, the danger is deadly, and in order to reach the solution, Cameron is going to have to step beyond what he believes he's capable of...and that is exactly what rolls into one of the main themes, since Cameron's biggest problem is self-doubt.

It's interesting (and probably more realistic) to see a hero, who saved the world and knows it, return to normal life, where no one knows what happened, and have to face the same daily problems as before. His insecurities weren't blown away over night, but rather, have gained an extra edge due to the expectations others now have of him. So, that was a nice twist, especially when a bully from earlier in his childhood adds a constant reminder to Cameron's insecurities. Not that Cameron needs the reminder. His inner-banter constantly holds this insecurity up like a flashing red light, which end up getting more than a little repetitive. There are wise words from his therapist to help cope, but even these feel like they're on repeat. A little less would have been more. The tale, though, is exciting enough to smooth these over and keep the book interesting.

This is the second book in the series but can be read without visiting book one, and that even though the story builds from the previous adventure. The first chapters add a lot of backstory, which slowed the flow (especially for anyone who read book one) but made sure everything was covered to keep plot holes away as the adventure continues. Tossed in file entries from a secret society create a extra level of mystery and fun...although I'm not sure if these were in book one or not. Also, Cameron's friends sink into a bit of elemental magic, which adds a new twist on several ends.

While very message driven, this read holds more than a little excitement and adventure. I received a complimentary copy, am giving this 3.5 stars and rounding up.

My favorite thing about this book is that it shows all of the views of the characters,and all of the thought that went into the book.I think it's a good book because the thought in it is tied together and even though it's fake it makes sense.

I recommend this book to 8-11 year old Minecraft lovers.

After the last battle against Herobrine, Gamenight999 and his sister Monet113 trapped Herobrine in a pig's body, disabling him from injuring others and killing them to escape. But Herobrine used his powers to create the "Shadow of Evil" that glides through Minecraft and attack's Gameknight's best friend in Minecraft; Crafter. The NPCs call on Gameknight999 once again to come and save Minecraft again. Only this time his father-Monkeypants271-comes into the game with his son. Monet wants to come, but is denied since they need someone to watch over them. In the game, they go to Crafter's village and find out that he is dying. The health potions are starting to have less and less effect on him, so they come to the conclusion that they need a witch's potion to heal him. They take him to the nearest swamp and search for a witch's hut. They find one and capture the witch-who is hostile since she just wants to be left alone. Gamenight and his friends explain their situation and after a bit of argument, the witch agrees to help, but with a price. The witch, named Morgana, brews a potion and makes Crafter drink it, afterwards telling them that a sliver of the shadow of evil got inside of Crafter and is killing him from the inside. The only way to save him, is by killing Herobrine. But by killing Herobrine, his XP will infect someone else and Herobrine will be reborn again. So the only way to kill him, is by dropping him into the void, where nothing can survive. They go to Herobrine's prison and bring him to the dungeon that leads to the End, the only place where you can easily access the void. They go into the End and defeat the Ender Dragon and drop Herobrine into the void, killing the virus and the shadow of evil. Finally, it is time to pay Morgana back for helping them. Morgana's price was to be a part of Crafter's village. The group repay her and the story ends there.

I really enjoy Mark Cheverton's book series because the story line is perfectly written and every character's personalities are varied depending on the environment that they are in when they are introduced into the series. Another thing that I really like about this series is that I can relate to a lot of the things that Gamenight goes through mentally. Like the guilt when he loses a friend in battle, I would never be able to cope with that. One great thing about this series is that Mark gives his readers seeds for Minecraft to look at and recreate scenes from the books. I enjoy this series immensely and have been letting my friends borrow these books to help spread this incredible series. All of the people who have borrowed these books have told me how good they were and ask for the next book in the series. I love this series and I am ready to read the next book!

=======================================SPIOLERS===============================================

Last stand on the ocean shore is the climax of "The mystery of Herobrine" set in the Gamenight999 series. Gamenight, has been transported into minecraft once again, but to make things worse, his sister Monet113 is the reason. Monet wanted to talk to Gamenight's NPC friends but they made a rule not to interact with users anymore, so she goes and puts herself in the game. The problem is, if you die inside the game, you might die in real life. Gamenight goes in after her, finds out that Herobrine (A virus in minecraft form and glowing eyes) is real and is after him (But that's a review for another day). Finally that leads us to The Last Stand on the Ocean Shore. The oracle gives gamenight a secret weapon to defeat herobrine, and also gives him a riddle: Look to the lowliest and insignificant of creatures for that will be where your salvation lies. (Just to catch up, creatures in the game drop XP or experience upon death, and if herobrine collects that XP, he turns into the creature that dropped it.) When gamenight is in mortal combat against Herobrine (much more powerful than gamenight.) he uses the weapon and realizes that it is just a pig. At first gamenight is mad at the oracle but realizes that a pig is the lowliest and insignificant creature in minecraft. Gamenight tricks Herobrine into killing a pig, herobrine collects the XP on accident, and turns into a pig. One of the only creatures in minecraft that cannot deal damage. The NPCs build a prison for herobrine and Gamenight and Monet return home.

The Last Stand on the ocean shore was, in my opinion, a master piece. The story was well crafted and I swear, the description was so good that on the action packed chapters, I heard battle music in my head. Every addition to this series has a moral that can help middle schoolers like me along in life. Like this one, this moral, I think was, "No matter how hard the challenge, it is possible as long as you know that you aren't alone, there are people that will help you, people like your friends." I am in love with this series and I am in the middle of the next book, cant wait to write a reverw on that one!
