Crimson Letters
I thoroughly enjoyed every page of this book. I could not put it down. Very interesting approach to what lead these human beings who were not treated as such, most of the days of their lives on death row. And what the life of someone who is on death row is like. Thank you.

Essays by death row inmates. Their stories are well written, well told and hard to read. Tessie’s contributions provided good insight and background into how complex this situation is.

I enjoyed this immensely, despite how incredibly heavy the essays were at times. It was a really good look into what life is like on Death Row and the various paths that led the men to it. All the men had such distinct voices and experiences and it was a great way to humanize prison inmates that society often thinks of as "monsters", if they think of them at all.

This book was very interesting to read. I would have read it without laying it down but these stories go very deep and I had to take breaks for my mental sanity. I most liked about it being so authentic as these are real stories written by inmates on dead row. You will learn a lot about difficult childhoods and what prison does to you but you will not read about the murders these men have comitted or how they felt during these acts. There is no chapter about it as they are appealing their verdicts and it could be used against them? It also gives you insights into the US justice and prison system that make you shiver. Having read this book confirms my impression that this kind of system where some kids and teenagers are just left to their own and then severly punished for crimes that could have been prevented doesn't work at all. And after having learned in this book that most dead sentences are executed only 20 years later, and 75% of dead row candidates are not executed as they discover mistakes in the processes etc but they find out only 20 years later, I find the point of this kind of punishment even more invalid.
Thank you for having had the opportunity to read this book.
