Smooth rhyming text and cool, clear cartoon pictures tell the story of shark who knows he shouldn’t eat candy but does anyway, “just to feel dandy.” Images of the happy and sad shark are truly delightful and small readers will easily relate to the poor fish’s emotions. And so begins an oceanic quest to find an oceanic dentist.

The characters are brightly colored, easily recognizable, and enticingly fun. The text is very natural. The dentist’s chair is as scary as you’d expect, and the dentist’s advice as wise. I particularly enjoyed the eight-arms of the dentist maneuvering dental equipment.

The story ends with a short memory test to be enjoyed with “mum and dad,” or presumably any other caregiver. Pre-readers will enjoy reciting back what they learned in the story… and might even learn not to get toothache!
