The Legend Awakes is about a young girl Claire, who has a special affinity for birds. I think the author made a good choice in making the main character a young girl.

The author did a great job of incorporating many species of birds and other objects of nature into her story. It was obvious that the author had done her research.

Claire’s voice and the voices of the other children were well captured. They sounded like young children with their wild imaginations and secrets, also with their swirling emotions about who is their friend from one moment to the next.

The one part I had trouble with, was the way the paragraphs seemed to be choppy. Sometimes they switched topic quickly from one paragraph to the next. The paragraphs were also short. I don’t know if this is the author’s writing style, or if she specifically wanted the story to convey the excitability and jumpiness that is Claire. If it was the latter, it worked.

This is a cute book for a young reader. It has just the right amount of excitement and tension with lots of birds and nature scenes. I’d recommend this to anyone whose child is interested in the outdoors.
