Whilst I really enjoyed the book, I did feel that it lost momentum towards the end. However, that said, the author has extremely intricate and accurate references to the era she is writing in, making for an interesting historical read. The characters were realistic both within the different social circles they moved within but also on their own merit. Overall a very well written and thought out novel that was most 'unputdownable'. (I read it in one sitting)
Despite my slight (and it is but very slight) disappointment of the vaguely lackluster ending, I would recommend it and I would certainly read it again.… (altro)

I just want to say this is a great story and very well written. I do not give many books a 5* rating but this one is well deserved. I started reading and did not want to stop. If you give it a try I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I have read other novels by Ms. Bundy and have enjoyed them all.

As children on a wagon train in the mid 1800’s, Francis and Laurel meet and become fast. After months of traveling together, the wagon train splits; Francis’s family traveling to Oregon, while Laurel’s to San Francisco. Although they were separated by hundreds of miles for a decade, fate would bring them back together.

The first book of Kathryn Ewers Bundy’s that I read was The New Women and greatly enjoyed her strong, clean, developed and polished writing. Each character in that story was completely fleshed out, realistic and relatable on some level; every scene was vivid; every emotion was experienced. The Overlanders, however, was extremely disappointing. I felt this novel was weak with under developed characters with inconsistent personas and unrealistic plot points. I was left feeling unsatisfied since I went in with high expectations from The New Women. In the end, The Overlanders was just another mediocre novel in the Lesbian genre.… (altro)

Claudia Thomas is a modern woman in the 1880s; educated and experiencing life in Europe, while postponing marriage to her fiancé Robert. While in Germany, she befriends Jeanette, the widowed nanny of a wealthy family, a friendship that crosses the boundary of social classes. From this friendship blooms a deeper relationship. When life happens and time passes, this love is never far from their minds.
Kathryn Ewers Bundy has spun a tail that is romantic, painful, enchanting and haunting. The endearing quiet charms of Jeanette and the charismatic individuality of Claudia are the building blocks of this well crafted novel. From the first word to the last, I was captivated by the story of these two women.

Reminiscent of Sarah Waters’ style.
