This latest entry into the ever expanding library of Fleming books isn’t what appears to be, for it doesn’t work as a straightforward biography. If you approach it expecting a chronological account of Fleming’s life then you will find the narrative meandering and repetitive.

But if you take it as twelve loosely connected essays or papers (which fits with the author’s academic background) each examining a particular theme, then it becomes a readable series of theses and critiques examining different aspects of Fleming as a literary figure; his influences, techniques, and approach to his work in both fiction and non-fiction.

This is one of the few books to give equal weight to Fleming’s non-fiction work and perhaps that’s where it adds real value to the field of Fleming… (altro)
