A wonderful book about Ira Sankey and his ministry with D.L. Moody.

"From the time he was very young, Ira Sankey loved to sing. And God had big plans for Ira's voice--plans that would take him all over America and Europe. As part of D. L. Moody's ministry team, Ira sang the gospel to thousands of men and women.

Ira Sankey and D. L. Moody saw God work wonders through the dual ministry of preaching and music. Their meetings brought revival, drawing lost souls to Christ and encouraging the hears of believers. " ~ Journeyforth… (altro)

RATING: 3 stars

Geared for readers age 9-12, Ira Sankey is a great story packed full of details about a man that I knew little about. While most have probably heard about Dwight Moody, of the famous Moody Institute in Chicago, I would guess that fewer know about Ira Sankey and how he contributed to the ministry that Moody started.

Ira spent his life traveling the US and Great Britian extensively with Dr. Moody to share with others his talent of singing and songwriting, sharing the Word of God through music to people everywhere. He did not limit this experience to followers of the faith alone but many times set up right in the street. Many of the songs that Sankey wrote or set to music back then are still being sung today in churches around the world.

His dedication to the ministry and to God did not go perfectly however. He endured many trials along the way and sometimes questioned whether he was truly doing God's Will or his own. In the end, with the help of his supportive wife Fanny, Ira believed that his life's work was truly to glorify God.
