When Nina returns to her Aunt and Uncle's home from boarding school, expecting to celebrate the holidays, she is grief stricken to learn that her brother, Charlie, has enlisted in the war.

As she comes to terms with this reality, she learns that he has been captured and is being held in the Yankee prison. Naively, she finds comfort in his imprisonment, feeling he is at least not at war and safe. Charlie communicates that he is being treated well to Nina, but paints a truer image to their beloved Uncle.

Nina finds herself on an incredible journey to get her brother freed from the prison, but in order to do so, she becomes a spy in the White House. While working both sides of the spy ring, Nina receives word from her cousin Willie that Charlie has become "blue," meaning that he has changed sides in order to be freed from the prison, and doctor the injured soldiers. Will Nina continue her mission, now that she knows her brother is free?

Reading this book is like looking into the author's diary, or rather intimate letters that she might have shared with her father, if he was still alive as she survives her most difficult days.

The author shares poetry, short stories, scriptures, and artwork. This is book offers comfort from someone who was diagnosed with cancer and came out on the other side to share her experiences.

Jack Durish, best selling author--Until now I had never thought that I would find another author with the power to evoke an authentic sense of time and place as did Laura Ingalls Wilder in her stories of pioneer life. Until now I had never thought that I would find another author who could write with the authentic voice of the antebellum South as did Joel Chandler Harris in Uncle Remus stories. Until now I had not read “Carolina Rain: by Nancy B. Brewer.-

Nancy B. Brewer's new release "Garnet" has all the elements that are sure to keep readers spellbound. If you loved Brewer's "Carolina Rain" series, you are going to love "Garnet."
The life-like scenes and the "I am there" feeling that Brewer is known for shines through in Garnet.

Garnet is a dark mystery which takes place in France, 1889. The heroine's life had been picture perfect until her aunt died. Murder, a curse, romance and some unscrupulous characters fold into an interesting plot.

Just when you think you have figured out the conspiracy, the author throws you another curve. The storyline is laced with fascinating historical facts, places and people.

The whole book is like a journey, of fear, hope and the discovery of the greatest power on earth.

My grandmother is related to the author of this book. I am inspired by her Victorian hoop skirts. She was at The Depot signing books and we bought a copy.

Carolina Rain is a southern novel that takes place during the Civil War. It follows the life of Lizzie, from the days of slaves and plantations to the horrors of war and the burning of Charleston. I thoroughly enjoyed this book! If you like historical fiction, you'll enjoy this.
